This meme appears to be trying to draw a direct correlation between an individual's intelligence and their net (financial) worth. There is no direct correlation of that nature. Albert Einstein was a genuine genius, but he was never rich in the financial sense of the term.

Because someone is rich doesn't mean they are "smart" or "rational." Because someone is "smart" or "rational" doesn't mean they will be rich.
reply
3 ups, 3 replies
There IS a direct relationship, no matter how smart you try to seem about it.

Stupid and crazy people are pretty much always poor. No exceptions. If they happen to be rich, they got it through some inheritance or windfall, and as the saying goes, "A fool and his money are soon parted." They quickly lose it.

A person that is both smart AND rational, however, is required to even be rich. I'm not saying "all people who are smart and rational are rich" I am saying it's a minimum requirement. Other factors come into play such as ambition, other life values, ones driving goal in life, and to a degree some luck.

Just because someone is rich doesn’t mean they’re smart. Trump called the one person Pocahontas remember? (I don’t know who because I didn’t see the thing itself) So he stupidly uses offensive things from little kid disney movies. And he’s getting us into a war, putting lives in danger, just because of a stupid button! And no actual smart person would call themselves a stable genius. If you are smart, people can tell you’re a genius. Think of all those things, and remind me how trump is smart for all that.

"Moron," "Imbecile," "Child," "Idiot," "Illiterate" - these and more are how his own appointees and staff have described him. Not even Bush Jr got that.
Every moment of video, audio, tweet from Trump is an embarrasing cringe fest. Gosh, they even use his image to promote condom use in Brazil.

In your second paragraph, you generalize and claim no exceptions - you then state examples that constitute exceptions.

Your third paragraph you state that a person "is both smart and rational " is "required to even be rich." That doesn't hold. In addition to the possibility of inheritance is the possibility of winning a lottery and getting rich that way.

As far as mental state goes, people can crack under pressure. This can occur to rich or poor.

Let me help you out.
You could be poor BECAUSE you are stupid, but you wouldn't be poor BECAUSE you are smart.
Likewise, you could be rich BECAUSE you are smart, but you wouldn't be rich BECAUSE you are stupid.
reply
2 ups, 2 replies
That's not true. You could be poor and smart. You can be rich and stupid. There is no exclusivity between them. There is no casual relation either. Being smart doesn't mean you will be rich. Being stupid doesn't mean you will be poor.

This is all egalitarian bullcrap. Studies show IQ has a direct correlation to average income, for instance. Third world countries also have the lowest average IQ.

It's a lot easier to believe the fairy tale that everyone is equal and the only reason they don't succeed is sheer bad luck and discrimination. No one wants to claim responsibility for their own stupid actions. Hence, why we have a billion warnings not to put ladders on uneven surfaces, and not to use plastic bags as children's toys. They're there for a reason because some idiot didn't think it was a bad idea.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
Yes, there is a correlation. Which is why IQ goes up over the generations for families with raised incomes.
Everything from improved nutrition to basic stimulation starting at the youngest age to better education as well as self esteem contribute.

Children from ghettos in Western countries who are adopted by higher classes show an improvement.
Even adult Untouchables from India and Barakumin from Japan score higher after moving to countries where their traditional lower caste status is unknown by the general public.
reply

Aaaand those studies say that even if you take some 3rd world infant out of poverty and put him in a good home with good nutrition, the IQ only raises so far, like half a standard deviation.

Also I think you are completely misunderstanding me. I definitely think there are people who are smarter than others. I think you are the one idealizing that reality will properly reward ability and deny that reward otherwise. I think the world is a lot more chaotic than you are giving it credit for.
reply
1 up
That's not a direct correlation. Having more money means that you can afford to to be smarter. Being poor means you are in survivor mode and you care much more about how to get by, than reading a book.

You kind of prove my point with your example of underdeveloped countries. No one in that country is smart. Why is that? Guess they were all born stupid then. Guess how much their families make, or who they interact with has nothing to do with it.

I guess that went over your head... It's okay just google 'index fund investments.' That should educate you a bit.
reply
1 up, 3 replies
You still don't know why I'm laughing at you...

Fine, I'll explain. When you invest in that kind of stuff you're letting companies use your money to make money through the business they do. In return you'll get a piece of the profit proportional to the investment you made. Those companies have a ton of businesses. Some of those businesses even fail but because they have so many that don't fail they will essentially always turn a profit.

Trump does the same things as those companies. He has a lot of businesses and a few failed but because he has so many he still earns profit. Why would a man like that need to give his money to other men like himself to do what he's already doing? I'm sure he does have a few investments like what you suggested in areas that aren't in direct competition with his own interests, but what you had in mind is silly. Hence, hahaha and you don't know what you're talking about.
[deleted]

Well, he can let the money grow by getting more small loans of one million dollars from his dad,
1 up
Very good job, hits the nail on the head.

He does exactly what these other index funds do, except he gets to collect a much larger piece of the pie and lets other schmucks invest for much smaller pieces.

To say he'd have more sitting around by itself is very ignorant. The stock market has been quite turbulent over the past decades, with booms and busts. He could have potentially been wiped out in this process. But in the 1970s and early 80s, the Dow Jones was at 1000. Now it's sitting at 25,000. Do the math, and it's hard to reason how, if he invested 1 million into the stock market, how he could have much more than 50 million, counting the dividends.
1 up
Because they do it much better with a lot less effort on his part. Normally you would be right, but he just isn't a good businessman. Not in the way he conducted business or the way he grew his business. The fact he couldn't beat S&P 500 index fund investments is proof of that.

I assumed CNN because you clearly don't do any research.

Based on your statement you're being fed false information. The most abundant source of false info is the mainstream media. You might be watching/reading NBC or ABC but it really doesn't matter because it's all bs.

I don't know who Alex jones is. Not everyone is brainwashed by the media.

Do your own research and avoid reading entire articles. Just look for the facts and put those together to form your own opinion.

reply

It's 200 Million actually. Until he releases his taxes to prove otherwise that's the most accurate estimate. Turning that much into a few billion over many years is nothing.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
Where'd you get 200mil from? This should be funny. You've already proven that you're a financial expert.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
200 million was the amount his father passed along when he died. I'm assuming it all went to Trump until he releases his taxes. That seems reasonable to me. Do you actually believe Trump when he said he only got 1 million? XD And I thought I was gullible.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
Trump was already worth 1 billion by 1990, almost ten years before his dad died. 1 mil to 1 bil. Yeh still impressive. You're probably gullible, but definitely ignorant and dumb.
reply
1 up, 2 replies
That's a stretch. I mean he did get to own a real estate company from his dad to run in the 70's so he was probably worth millions then too. But it's hard to justify such a strong family connection to business as Trump's genius. Whether he invested in the 70's with 40 million or 200 million in the 80's he still would come out much richer if he didn't do anything unnecessary with his money. And at least I'm not stupid enough to incorrect use the word but.
reply
1 up, 2 replies
The point is Trump was able to take 1 mil and get rich with it.

His dad probably said something like: "here's a million years dollars, go make something out of yourself. I expect to get that back."

Once Trump proved he was a capable businessman his dad was probably more than willing to let him run whatever businesses he thought Trump could handle because it was someone he could trust and it was also good business.

You can try to belittle the president, but he's one of the most accomplished men to ever hold the office. If any of our presidents have been geniuses, he's definitely one of them.

Well even if you say all that... the company he took over was worth millions already when he took charge and they eventually ended up liquidating the business anyway. So the way I see it his had gave him a project he wasn't scared he could screw up. His dad probably thought the experience would give him what he needed to be a successful business man.

Considering the embarrassment of his bankruptcy's and the type of business practices he likes, it was not enough. It would be fine if the bankruptcies where normal, but they were massive failures that had drastic consequences for those working for him. And before you say of course! Most good businessmen are good enough to prevent bankruptcy from destroying the lives of those who work for them. It's a nice courtesy and keeps up a good reputation. I'm sorry you can't just point at large sums of money and declare unparalleled genius. That's not how the world works, it's not that idealistic.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
He was worth at least 1 billion in 1990. That's not a stretch. His personal stuff like his houses, cars, bank, etc were valued around 500mil by his divorced wife in the mid 90's. That means his businesses were worth a heck of a lot more.

Trump can do whatever he wants with his money. Fortunately he likes to use his money to make more money which means more businesses and more jobs. So what if 1% don't work out?

Saying Trump could have made more money if he did this or that is like criticizing Floyd Mayweather's boxing. It doesn't matter what you think, he knows more about what he's doing than you ever will.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
I'm just saying most people who invest into personally owned businesses and run those business well destroy the profit margins of standard index funding. I've read the article you keep bringing up. It's extremely biased. It compares Trump to Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, two of the wealthiest men in the world who are on a whole other level compared to Trump and that also happen to endorse the democrats.

You're right, it does speak volumes. It was a smear article to try and diminish Trumps accomplishments by comparing him to the worlds richest people in the hopes that the readers wouldn't be able to distinguish one rich person from the next. Being as rich as Warren Buffet is a lot different than being as rich as Donald Trump.

Because you're also biased against Trump, you failed to see the endearing points. He likes to be in control of his own money. He doesn't gamble and he doesn't trust easily. He's also not in a position where he can just throw money at anything to see what happens.

You clearly can't comprehend the difficulties of amassing and maintaining wealth. You've read the article and now you think you're an expert. It is hard. If it wasn't everyone would be rich because they would just apply the same principles at a smaller scale to multiply their wealth.
1 up
Multiplying a chunk of change by a few fold over a few decades is only valuable if the original investment is large. If you don't have a large amount of money to invest, than you can't use that strategy. It's pretty simple, I don't have to be an expert to understand that 1,000 times 10 is no where close to ten of millions if not hundreds of millions times 10. This is over decades remember. I don't mind that he decided to try and be a businessman with his money, but the amount he started with, and the time he had, you would have to be legally retarded to fail with so many levels of safety nets. I agree Trump isn't retarded, but he is no genius. Also I'm not sure you did read the same article. The one I read compares him to other normal businessmen with the same advantages he had.
