I also fiddle with numbers. Go up to 9 or f, and they lighten, lower darkens them. Or it alters them.

Standard orange here is #ff8800 Change it to #ff8899, and you get a pink like the letters in the meme here. #ff8866 gives a hue to match that ring of sunny glare,,,

I favor originality, but as you pointed out on your meme, memeing is about passing around popular ones.

Another user had recently suggested there should be a separate front page for Original ImgFlip Content. It's great idea but too often we borrow or adapt unconsciously without knowing it. The line can get real blurry. For example movie remakes and modern adaptations of Shakespeare plays. The premises may not be original but the plot can be entirely different with different casts bringing in different personalities to existing characters. You can't complete say they're original or unoriginal.

Like many I'm here for the laughs and I value what makes me laugh. If it is new and original then it's a bonus. Splitting hairs is just not fun. :)

Exactly. Plus some might think that entails posting an already existing meme as opposed to captioning one, some might claim they came up with it independently with no idea it already existed, a slight alteration via punctuation, spelling, or template can turn it essentially original, etc.

That might not be a bad idea. Eliminating the points altogether could eliminate unnecessary tension.

A problem with that would be that the really good memes wouldn't get any front page recognition and they'd be stuck on the page as some really shitty memes.

IMHO, there a re plenty of "shitty memes" on the front page, and lots of hilarious ones that are lost in the shuffle.

Lego Meme Week had to be the worst. A bunch of the same, "Ouch, I stepped on a Lego."
The meme about finding the sock was ridiculous.
And then one about the memer happy because he finally washed his dishes. No joke, no funny pic, no irony. He just got around to cleaning them.

The "Repost Someone Else's Meme Week" had ignored memes get recognized at last because popular memers posted them.

I figure just getting them there through views and comments.

Problem with that is some may get views because they're so idiotic or relulsive or something people want a close look to see if they're getting it right or to read any comments.
Another is that some good ones get lots of votes but not many comments because there's nothing easy to say in regards to it, and they don't get many views at first. So upvotes do a service there,,,

Replacing the straight up or down deal we have now with a 5 point system, like customer reviews on Amazon, would be the best solution. It has all the advantage of feedback, with none of the problems we are currently experiencing.

But that would just complicate site functions. Plus with Amazon, those are product reviews from people who purchased the item. Here, it would be open to anyone, including those with nothing more but a personal grievance invested,,,

It's a good system but it makes people post whiney "please upvote" memes and gifs that shit on those who put effort into making clever meme.

That's why downvotes are good. If I had the balls, I'd downvote them away,,,
Sadly, some of them are people I like, so I just ignore them.

There was this meme with a cat supposedly jumping through a wall of snow to get into the door of a house (actually they made a fake thinner wall out of snow and tossed the cat through it). I had seen it on Facebook in 2015, but someone posted it early this year here. And when someone commented like it was the OP's cat, she went along with it like it was and this just happened at her house.

You get recycled gifs like that with watermarks from other sites, and people posting it like it like they made it. And when people compliment them on great gif, they don't have the decency to say they only borrowed it, not made it...

I know what you mean. I've always had a thing for downvoting upvote gifs because they're annoying but then isayisay, who I really like, started doing it.

That's what happened with me. I was tempted, but then saw some folks I like doing it, so I leave it be.

I did get in a discussion about one though when one of the older memers criticised a newb for doing it, and I asked him why it was alright for older members to do it. He said is was Ok for them being established and recognized here, but newbs have to earn their stripes. Seriously?
Same guy said a similar thing about reposting. A newb did it, and there was - get this - 4 or 5 older memers criticizing the newer one for stealing, and that they reposted it first, so it was Ok. One claimed it, then another says he did it before, and the third claimed to have done it even earlier, etc...
So I chimed in on the utter ridiculousness of claiming ownership via being the first to steal it and post it here. So that same guy proceeded to debate it with me, some gibberish about a hierarchy based on seniority and popularity, and that the newb should have looked at old memes to see if it was already done. Just joined, and now has to peruse through thousands of memes to see how many others stole it?

That was early this year, and why I refer to this high school mentality.
Oh, and get this, the senior picking on the frosh is a real senior - a grandfather!

I made a meme once on another site, and the quality wasn't as good as here, so I never went back. So I'm not familiar with how others work,,,

I'm on a lot of them, but I frequent this one most often.
The admins need to take some of that advertising money and update the meme creation aspect of it, imo.
But otherwise I enjoy the ppl here. Yes even the libtards. It's half the entertainment for me. Haha

The site should post ads atop every page. And why did they finally show me eBay only a couple of days this week? I buy stuff on there like I was a crack ho on the first of the month, and entered through here when I saw it. Instead I get ads for fresh food deliveries and trips to Thailand. I don't travel, and food don't travel to me,,,

I'm usually on a forum o another site, and I'm always telling them it's dependent on trolls. We get one, thing start hopping. We finally kill it, stuff slows down.
People like antagonism. We're all trolls,,,

The term troll is thrown around quite liberally around here and I do agree, a majority of users on here are trolls, including top users.
Some users are more malicious then others, but it's still trolling.

Some of the seemingly nice ones turn out to be the more malicious, albeit, insidiously,,,
