I read a more detailed version of this in the Great Bird Of the Galaxy's biography last year. He lived a good life, and many were saddened when he left the mortal coil. His ashes now float among the stars, where his mind took us to a place no man had gone before.

Nothing beats the 60's original Star Trek.

I discovered the show in the original run one night at my cousin's house. His boys were fans. I was pissed when I discovered it had been zapped by the suits at NBC.

Yeah, they were kicking themselves for a long time after. The fan base was crazy.

It wasn't until they discovered a thing called demographics that made them kick themselves. The veiwers were solid gold to advertisers on so many levels. The fan base fought twice to save it, but the suits ignored their viewers. The only reason ST:TNG came about with Gene onboard was that it wasn't the network, but the local stations. Some did preempt some episodes in various markets because local programers thought it was too controversial. Still, it was a success.

Have you seen any of the fan made new Star Trek episodes? They have them on YouTube and Netflix. Made just like the original series with the same look and the same type of action-drama-humor. They're pretty good, too. Just have to get past the different actors playing familiar roles.

No, I haven't, but I've watched The Orville. Seth McFarland (Family Guy) has done a good job on it. There are light moments, but many serious themes. It's not a parody of Star Trek, but a good tribute to it. There are some inside jokes, like the Captain's ex-wife, who is his first officer, is named Grayson. Don't get it? The maiden name of Spock's mother. Bordus is modeled on Word and Isaac is definitely based on Cmdr Data. Like Kirk, though, the Captain always goes on away missions.

If you ever get a chance, check out his biography. I read it in bits and pieces over a month or so, and couldn't get over the variety of his life. I don't think there wasn't anything that he wouldn't try. Useless trivia: the communicators in ST:TOS actually inspired the cell phone technology of today. Yeoman Rand always had the captain signing an electronic device that inspired the iPad and Galaxy tablets. Something I'm very aware of from Trek Tech is the remote monitoring systems.
