Your first meme comment reminded me of Stephen King's book "The Shining". I think there's a chapter in the book where the dad takes a old abandoned hornet's nest from the cold into Danny's room, but there are some stragglers in the nest, some pain involved for all. I might have to put that book on my re-reading list.
