Cool. Back at you. I think we should leave it to the climatologist. Its become a political rally point, which always translates into silly exaggerations.

Batman Slapping Robin Meme | THERE'S A BROAD SPECTRUM OF REASONS WHY REGULAR FOLK DOUBT GLOBAL WARMING- GOD IS IN CONTROL | image tagged in memes, batman slapping robin | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Global Warming's probably gonna to hit global +2° Fahrenheit, and it's already a bit past +1°. The focus is on speed of research and mass production in order to minimize the impact of 2nd and 3rd World countries from engaging in industrial revolutions utilizing unclean and unregulated fuel sources. The idea is to actually undercut the fuel sources that aren't green. In essense, the owners of actual oil deposits seem to agree to the premise that they are now bankers, and that they can just leverage those assets as reserves.

The tea party is technically just centrist libertarians... People that want a tax cut. Don't care about much else. Will deny global warming because thats just an excuse to move factories to China.

*shrug*

Well I agree with you that moving factories to China, Russia, India, Brazil, etc. will mean more pollution. They do not have the same amount of environmental protections.

I don't disagree with climate change but I don't think using every storm as an example (which is what happens) is in any way good proof, nor should such a narrative be encouraged.

I think it's not a bad thing to at least keep that option open, what with the ice caps melting, the seas rising and beach erosion....
1 up, 7y,
1 reply
Which ice caps would those be?

The North Pole cap where an expedition was just cancelled because there was too much ice to reach the objective?

The South Pole cap that NASA recently stated the ice covered a record number of square miles?

I'm confused. To which caps are you referring? I mean, one would have to be a blithering idiot that completely ignores news contrary to one's preconceived notions to say the polar ice caps are melting. Perhaps you were speaking of another planet, right?
2 ups, 7y,

I didn't say the north and south poles. And no, I'm talking about planet earth, where the definition of an ice cap is "A dome-shaped body of ice and snow that covers a mountain peak or a large area and spreads out under its own weight. Ice caps have an area of less than 50,000 square km (19,500 square mi). Compare ice sheet." A polar cap is just one of the examples. If you want to deny the seas are rising, try going to Hawaii sometime where the beaches are eroding away because the tides keep getting higher and higher. If that's not due to glaciers melting then you tell me what. Displacement of water from Trump's inflated ego?

ROFLMAO!! So a volcanic island chain that - in geologic terms - has been around for the blink of an eye is now *ERODING*?!? NO!! That's unpossible!

Your entire supposition is based on the belief the current state of affairs (current defined as your lifetime) is somehow 'normal', when quite the opposite is the truth. There have been far hotter, wetter (and just about every 'er' you can come up with) times in the history of this planet.

So what is 'normal' for Earth?

Given that any honest scientist would tell you they don't have a clue what "normal" is, why are you clinging to your false 'normal'? I daresay the only 'normal' this planet has to offer is constant change. Mountains rise and fall. Deserts appear and disappear. Islands spring forth, and return to the sea.

But... but... muh waters are rising!!!eLeVeNtY!!!!! So what? That happens in a dynamic system, and it will happen quite often. If you were paying attention - and a six figure bet says you were not - you would have noticed the rise of the oceans was revised DOWN by scientists, in July. The current rate is 3 mm per year, or just about one inch per decade. So in reality, if it happens at all, this is a 500 - 1000 year away problem.

I would sell and get out now, Chicken Little.

Dude are you even reading what I'm saying? I said "the beaches are eroding" not the volcanic rock. You know like the sandy part of the beach? The water line keeps rising to the point where houses and roads are having to be moved back. That's not supposition on my part. It's cold hard fact. And I don't need to read a scientific report to know that. You can go there and see for yourself.

I'm not clinging to anything. I don't know what the cause is for sure. I said I think we shouldn't count out global warming as a possibility. Get a hold of yourself LOL
1 up, 7y
Where did I say volcanic rock was eroding?

Also, you do know what the beaches are made of in Hawaii, right? That would be big rocks that, over millions of years, have been broken down into little tiny rocks. Those little rocks have been mixed with skeletons of biologic creatures and a whole bunch of other ingredients, but hopefully you get the gist.

Let's say you are 100% right, just for the sake of argument. Man, currently, has no freaking clue how to stop it. We don't even know what is causing it, and we don't even know what "normal" is so we can shoot for a goal and stop everything in place once we get there.

That's what you cannot understand. Hawaii used to not exist. That, for millions of years, was "normal". The sea is seeking to reclaim it. That is also "normal". Every land mass on this planet used to be somewhere else. Is it "normal" for them to be where they are today? There's not a human being alive that can tell you the correct answer.

Once again, so even your underpowered brain can understand it : the only thing "normal" about this planet is the rate of change. Unless and until you have a perfect understanding of how the entire system works, you don't stand a prayer of "fixing" what you believe to be broken.

Because from where I stand, the only thing broken here is you.

I'm pretty sure there have been a number of hurricanes that have hit the US in the last 170 months (over 14 years). Are you sure you didn't mean 17 months?

You know what?

It would be wonderful if there were a global telecommunications network that contained a vast repository of man's knowledge. It would be even better if one could access that knowledge using portable, battery-operated devices that accessed that knowledge without wires. If those devices could be obtained at little-to-no cost, it would be a beautiful thing.

Because then one could get off one's lazy ass and access the information network to see that, indeed, the last *MAJOR* hurricane to hit the US was October 24, 2005. That works out to 4323 days, or 11 years, 10 months, 1 day.

You are welcome for someone doing the work your ass was too lazy to do in the first place.

Oh, and to the morons who are also too lazy to do their homework, the definition is *MAJOR* hurricane, which is category 3 and above. That is where the 'drought' is defined, and it indeed works out to 11 years, 10 months, 1 day.

Well, since you decided to immediately start ranting, throwing around insults, and being a general douchebag, let me go ahead and return the favor.

It's a dang good thing the meme never said anything about "major" hurricanes, then, isn't it? It would be a wonderful thing if basic reading comprehension was taught to children from a young age by parents and government funded public education. Guess it's too much to ask for some people to retain that.

Since you can't be bothered to actually read what is directly in front of you, let me quote you the entirety of the OP meme again:

"170 months without a hurricane hitting the US, experts say we were lucky - one hits Texas, and it's global warming"

Notice how the word "major" followed by "hurricane" is nowhere to be found on this image! In fact, "major" is nowhere in the image at all! Wow! Now aren't you glad that there are other people around to help you figure things like this out?
0 ups, 7y
ROFLMAO! You couldn't return a bottle for the deposit!

Those of us with brains immediately knew the context. Anyone with the internet and ignorance could divine the context with three minutes of searching. Then there are the morons who think proofreading trumps the context.

But... but... muh stoorms!!!eLeVeNtY!!!!

You can either educate and elevate yourself, or you can continue to wallow with the morons. The choice is entirely yours. We all know what choice you are going to make, but you could surprise us.

Please take a reading comprehension course.

Also on the NOAA site is the clearly written, easy-for-some-to-understand definition of *MAJOR* hurricane (defined as category 3 and above) as to where they derived the time-frame of almost 12 years.

Stop spreading stupidity and disinformation on the internet.

My reading comprehension is fine, thank you. OP said no hurricanes have hit the US in the 170 months before Harvey. Not no *MAJOR* hurricanes. No hurricanes, unqualified. Unless you are disputing the validity of NOAA's information please move along.
1 up, 7y
Then why did you call them storms? Hey, I wasn't the one running the anal-retentive version, I was running the nuanced version. So you just got caught stepping on your own dick - unless you are disputing the validity of what you said please move along.
