I'm a noob, but this is the best use of this template I've come across.

While it started with kids IMing each other, it was used because they tried to respond quickly. When texting came along. at something like 255 characters per text @ 25¢ a text, it actually cost more to type words out. Kids were already being ragged about $200 phone bills because of their texting. Then some kid saw the ad, "F U CN RD THS, U CN HV A GUD $$$ JOB" and the rest is history.

Yeah, texts are unlimited now, but old habits die hard.

Then I suppose all the acronyms came a little later. Lol. Yolo. Lmao. etc.

Acronyms have been around long before then. I worked for AT&T for several years, before cell phones had text capabilities. Talk about acronyms. The military had their share as well. It's only a natural progression that young people came up with new ones for their needs.

I never understood the whole "kk" thing or the "u" and "r" and the rest of that crap. If you don't have time to text, don't text. Unless it's an absolute emergency.

Just like in the comment section the number of upvotes is read as "5 ups"

Unless it's a huge emergency where I need to be quick, I always spell out the correct words when I text. I hate most acronyms. Lol is an exception
