No, they don't. I've had arguments with people over it. They think censoring the vowel will somehow fool God into thinking they actually didn't say his name in vain.

I understand what you're saying. I don't use God's name in vain, but I use all the other words, lol. In my earlier comment, I used the lower case "g", but that's a lot like censoring the vowel like you mentioned.

I know people from the Judeo- Christian tradition who always do that. I find it fatuous and irritating, but I respect their sincerity, and faith, if not necessarily their rationality.

I got into an argument with a Jewish woman over it (she's great, don't get me wrong, I just don't agree with her on everything), and when I presented the "it doesn't fool God" argument, she either didn't have an answer for it, or was finished discussing the subject. I guess it is better than spewing curses every other word, but yeah. Fatuous and irritating.
