Thanks, Octavia! You're right....I messed up there. Humphrey Davy invented the light bulb in either 1800 or 1802. Edison's version came out in 1897.
Right basic info, but wrong details.
.
Let this be a lesson, kiddies: don't do math when suffering from a period of radically extended wakefulness. LOL

Front page meme using "Though" instead of "Thought"? I can seriously see why people are leaving this site.

I hear you. That kind of spelling is becoming prevalent enough that I'm really starting to give up on the human race!
4 ups, 7y
Thank you. I have never said that anyone is leaving because of bad spelling, omitted words, etc. My point is simply that the memes that rank the highest, in my humble opinion, are simply the result of something that is other than excellence. There are obviously other forces that cause this phenomenon that discard qualities like literacy.

Seriously, people most likely leave here because of the politic memes, not the spelling errors, or the Grammar Nazis.

(A) Many noticed - we're just getting tired of the futility of pointing spelling errors out to the OP.
and
(B) IMHO, what drives many away are those who get easily insulted and/or cannot tolerate any form of grammatical help.

In this case, most probably was just a typo.

I was thinking admin. could somehow edit a meme themselves if they think it otherwise shows promise and start rejecting those that don't, esp the ones that have no context or just flat-out don't make sense. There are too many of those that end up getting featured. Meanwhile, I'm at 98% feature rate; 100% of my creations make sense!

You're welcome. I'd definitely like to see this site become more enjoyable for everyone, and it just seems like so much time wasted trying to figure some memes out. I sometimes give pity upvotes, and I feel a little dirty afterward ;(

I certainly understand the 'feeling dirty afterward'. I'll admit that I am probably a much older person than the typical memer. I was educated back in the days when nuns literally beat concepts like proofreading, spelling, grammar and punctuation into every one of their students. I sometimes have flashbacks of their 18 inch brass rulers that seemed to strike like lightning at the smallest infraction. To this day, I flinch whenever I see anything that seems to be penguin-like.

I understand that. Idk if I just missed that era or it was geography, but my husband went through that, but I didn't, and there are only 9 years between us. I actually went to a Catholic elementary school where I only had 2 teachers who were nuns who didn't wear the getup, and, while they didn't physically punish, they were the only 2 in the whole school who obviously wanted to. Lol

Most of these pussy memers who complain about grammar nazis, have absolutely no idea of the grammar nazis that educated me and who were dressed in those penguin outfits.

Yeah, some "Nazis" are pretty tactless about correcting grammar, but, even done politely, some memers still take offense. They don't understand that we're (at least I am) trying to fight the dumbing down of our society. I even correct my husband (I think he talks the way he does to spite his upbringing), but it's because I don't want him judged harshly and be passed over for opportunities because he mispronounce words or uses them out of context. With me, I think it's endearing, and I've known him long enough to know what he means, but, others won't. He's way too smart a person to miss out on a chance to demonstrate his smarts over some "wrong" words.

We are in full agreement that this is a fun place to share memes. That being said, I repeatedly see memes that have omitted words, spelling errors, wrong words, bad grammar rise to the top ratings. And I for one cannot understand the logic of that.

I guess that if making it to the front page is important, then the thing to do is to make sure that there are errors in the words that are in the meme. I'm not trying to jump all over you. But the way the website works is very strange indeed. All the best to you.
