I live in the RV/MH capital of the world. While I can't say I've seen anything quite like this around here, I have seen houses built onto Mobile home, two completely different mobes put together to make a double wide trailer, and someone actually built a basement under their mobile home.

In the 70s, a local converted a bread truck into an RV that he lived it. For heat in the winter, he had a Franklin stove and, instead of a foam mat, he had a waterbed in his truck. Great party machine.

I'd take a mobile home on 40 acres before a brick house in the suburbs any day ;)

Better than a mobe is a concrete shell house. Withstands almost anything. A friend clued me in on them. Foot thick concrete walls. Forca family, the shell would run, I estimate, about $5k. Interior? Whatever you want. Weatherproof? They've held up to earthquakes and flood, and, if tornados happen in your neck of the woods, no blown off roof. Some folks add a foot or two of soul and sod for extra protection. Google Bini Houses. A small cottage is at $3,500. Based on what I know about construction, a three bedroom home would cost about $20K or even less after it was all finished. Electric, cabinets, plumbing. Interior walls, Windows. And, because it's concrete, a wood burner wouldn't send the insurance through the roof.

That sounds really cool, I'm happy where I am, not in a mobile though. I've always wanted an underground house, there are a few around here you can hardly tell they are there. But talk about low utility bills!

I saw a few of those underground houses and a lot of other neat houses when I did a stint as a data collector for the county assessor when I was in college.

I have to look it up again, but there's some new technology out of India, an improvement over the current wind generators. I don't recall the exact details, but the size of the generator is not much bigger than a man, doesn't need a 50 foot tower, and, with the double star blade design, about 6ft, tip to tip, works in the lowest wind but at a higher rpm of the standard 2 and 3 blade systems.

I just looked it up. I've been wanting to live in something like that for decades, covered in soil, partially underground, covered in plants.
I'm broke tho, and in the Bronx, it ain't happening,,, oh well,,,

Find a small town away from the city. I know of about a dozen vacant lots on my block I could buy for about $400 or less. But like you, $$$ is at a premium.

Maybe I need to see kickstarter and work up a program to build these locally. I do have a plan.

Problem is that Iike it here too much. Plus, mid aged, no driver's license, etc, and my adaptability has been curtailed.
Also, for the last couple of years, been planting stuff for wildlife around the fragemented edges of Pelham Bay Park nearby, and thanks to the invasive weeds and drought, looks like I'm stuck tending them for some years.

Your plan does sound cool tho, hope it happens,,,
