Not just thanking you for mine, this bridges the gap between new and old. It also shows newer users it's possible thanks socrates

There are some users on imgflip who go around saying things like "You have to be popular on imgflip to get views and upvotes" so the main purpose behind putting this together was to show that's not exactly true. Yes, it's easier for popular users to get views and votes (because people click on their profiles), but as you've seen, it's not impossible for newer users to have successful memes. So that was the main idea behind it.

But yes, it's also an encouragement for newer users. You never know what meme (or gif) is going to be successful here, and new users can get on the front page too. :)
