It's somewhat known I try to stay out of political memes because of what often devolves into pointless name calling and nonsensical rhetoric from both sides. What I'm talking about goes beyond that.

As a community we can not be ok with someone saying it's ok to kill members of a different political ideology or telling someone to go kill themselves because of a different point of view.

We're better than this.

If you consider yourself a member of the imgflip community please do your part to keep this site the place we all love to come to laugh and/have a good time. That is why you keep coming back right?

I'm all for disagreeing with someone and debating things, and things are bound to get heated, but there's a line that's getting crossed all too often lately.

One memer telling someone their comment isn't cool only works part of the time. We need to stand as a community and on a bipartisan level call people out on these types of comments. I'm especially talking to daily users. This is our site, is that how we want it to be reflected? Comments like these need multiple people chiming in condemning them, not sitting by saying nothing or worse yet upvoting those comments.

If you're a Top 100 memer or frequenter of the Weekly Leaderboard I feel you're letting the rest of us down if you don't call out these comments if/when they show up on your own meme. If you upvote these comments you're just as responsible.

Be political, get your points across, but dial up the civility. Please.

It was actually funnier the first time I think. I had to delete my self conversation twice because I noticed spelling or grammar errors in my main comment. Most of the time I don't care, but want that comment clearly articulated.

I myself, if you remember, had crossed the line once and was criticized for it in November.
I still regret what I did (I did as soon as I posted it, but I wanted to be a bitch, so I left it), have apologized to the individual, and have never done so again.
In fact, I have refrained from arguing, even deleted memes seconds after posting because I worried it would start a troll riot. I'm active on a forum on another site where things can get rough, hence my initial dickish behavior, but I come here to get away from that persona of mine.

But it's not just the memes and responses that are being discussed in this thread that I have a problem with. I have seen some pretty racist stuff said, one member being called a Jew like it was a cussword, and another repeatedly being called a knuckle dragger plus some other related descriptors hurled at for Obama on that meme thread.

I don't want to seem overly delicate or PC, but I view such as completely inappropriate and unnecasary, in fact, more injurious than being told to die, because chances are such a wish won't come true, but having one's race or religion referred to derisively is already damage done,,,

That's completely uncool, no matter how much you dislike someone or disagree with their views. That's why I put everyone on blast with the meme. I'm sure there's many I haven't seen in the past...as those are the types of memes I try to avoid.

This meme is to level set and retroactively call out anyone who's every made such a comment. Hopefully it makes them think about it and change their behavior, much like Modda did. Someone I called out yesterday deleted their comment.

That's why I wish everyone acted more civilly. If that were the case the political memes would issues more front and center and talked about...instead of how in some cases the personal attacks outnumber the ideological comments.
