Yea, here in Atlanta (just north of the city limit) we got about an 1 1/2 of ice, but it was just enough to make the smaller ornamental trees bend but not break, a few limbs snapped here and there, but right after the post above it stopped, thank God! It could have gotten bad! I owned a tree service, I know exactly what it could of done! Lol. This thread surly didn't start out that way, but it seems to have ended up that way! Lol. :)

I've pruned... and lifted a few crowns, too. Yes weight and cold are tree killers.

Here in Venice(cali) start losing their shit after an 1 1/2" of MERE RAIN.

I saw the highlight reel a few years ago with frozen freeways and streets. All that Gulf and Gulf Stream moisture....plus plunging cold air coming off the plains - seems like a recipe for that sort of black ice and freezing rain.

My ex grew up in Simi Valley, she moved out of the house at 17 and moved to a house then a condo(south of the pier) there in Venice, where you are. This would have been in '84-'85ish. I read a newspaper article about Venice and how people are buying up house and making expensive remodeling and pricing a lot of people out of living there. The ex loved the character of Vience, all the different kinds of people, artist and so on. I'd hate to think that would happen!

I've read articles about how the Silicon Valley Millennials making $150k+ are having a hard time find a place to live, unless they want to have a hell of a commute everyday! And it's the companies they're working for are mainly the responsible for it, too!

I took some trips to Mavericks last Winter. There were people living in RV's from Santa Cruz to Pescadero all along the Cabrillo Highway. Seems like they all have jobs, and daily drivers. I stopped, in "my new beach house", @ a roadside spot on the cliff with a view out the window towards a Secret Spot (actually 2 of them) North of Scott's Creek. There was a camper or two a 1/4 mile up the road,which I had seen there for several passes. I'mwatching the surf and making breakfast -smoking a b-rip or 6 and looking out the window. Totally isolated and remote....HEARTATTACK....A Santa Cruz County Sheriff rolls up looks in my windowand bangs on the door. I'd been there LESS a 1/2 hour....

Turns out there's been COMPLAINTS about campers in the area....so now anywhere you want to park on that highway - aside from a "parking area" that so denominate....it's technically illegal.

Seems there had been a meeting in Davenport - nouveau riches there - Don't like seeing working poor people; while on their way to town or the city.

I talked to a hitchhiker (a local) while going through...he said he was @ that meeting....didn't recognize anyone.

I like visiting friends and family out there, but I just can't get over how expensive it is! It's becoming more insane than it already was! Boy, I sure do want a Double Double Animal Style....yum! Lol. :)

My parents bought the house in West Covina that I grew up in for $23k.
They sold it almost 30 years later, in 1997 for 120k
Today... just a mere 20 years later.. according to zillow... it is worth 928k!!!

I got a good deal... sort of.
In 1998, my ex and I bought a home high in the hills of West Covina for 200k...
When we divorced a few years later, it was worth almost 700k...

And Queen seemed like nothing out of the ordinary....tho you had to talk about 'your friend BRUCE' (Jenner, it turns out) on TV - because like Russia....no gays.

Bruce was who stared at you in the morning when ya ate your wheaties.
Pink Floyd came out with "The Wall" in 79... & seems like Queen came out with this album soon after.
By this time The Village People, and disco were on their way out.... without fully coming out.
Being gay was a social death sentence... not many were brace enough to completely come out of the closet...

I was in 8th and 9th grade in 1979...
I remember it being both an age of innocence of childhood still... yet, a growing awareness of current events and the world being a pretty scary place.
I grew up with air raid drills every week... and the occasional earthquake that would strike Southern California.... and knowing that Charles Manson did some bad things.... and that was the extent of bad things that could happen.
In high school things changed... I started watching the news, reading newspapers and realizing that the world is not all sunshine and buttercups... but it was still a pretty good place to be.
I was one of those weirdo kids that liked disco a lot longer than I let in.. I still do!

But I also opened my mind to music other than The Bee Gees and Karen carpenter.
My first day of high school I sat in math class next to a cute guy who was obsessed with Pink Floyd.
Our teacher was awesome and when we got done with our assignments he had us just talk, get to know one another in a big circle( rounding our desks into circles was big in my school) Chris intro diced us to "The Wall" and the teacher lived it too...
So that was the soundtrack of my first semester of high school.
Next semester I discover RUSH.... and they have been my favorite ever since :-)
I also like country and other genres of music...I am quite eclectic :-)

I was looking for a template to reply to you, and I found this and just laughed my ass off, then I had to go run around and make sure this "Winter Storm" that's coming through here tonight doesn't mess anything up! It looks like it will just stay rain and maybe some sleet. Atlanta has some unique topography that can make things change very quickly and unexpectedly. It's all about timing. Snow is fine, ice storms and a way more menacing beast! Finnells after 2-3 hours I can reply back to you! Lol. :)

I remember that one, it f**ked y'all up terribly! Took out the high voltage towers, that was a f**king disaster! Ice is 11 times heavier than snow when it's frozen on trees, power lines....you name it! Not fun!

I'm hanging at my moms for this storm, dad is in California, don't want mom or my nieces to be alone if the power goes out or trees start popping! The pine trees here are notoriously susceptible to breaking do to snow/ice loading.

1:41am EST. I have an ice storm on my hands! The temperature got just cold enough for the rain/sleet to freeze on contact. The ornamental trees are cover with ice and leaning pretty good, big trees are still ok, I have an oak leaning over the driveway over my dad's F-250, just moved that. If it keeps up it going to be trouble, this will probably all melt by lunch, but the next few hours are going to be the question........coffee is flowing like a river....plus a little help, I figured I may need some when I told mom I'll stay here at her place this weekend. Just what I need, more work! Lmao! :)

I will say that Al Franken has done some very good work for the comedy/entertainment industry, he's really done it all when it comes to thath ex had his ups and downs just like anyone else.
