Actually, his mom was atheist, his dad wasn't around long enough to indoctrinate him, and his step dad barely gave it lip service. He did learn Muslim traditions because he spent several years in a Muslim environment. Much like a Jew would pick up Christian knowledge by living in the US. From age 10, he was raised by his mother's parents, hid grandmother being a very active member of the Baptist Church. As an adult, he put his atheism aside and embraced the Christian faith.
