Why don't they have a right to a livable wage? Which one do you want? People on welfare, or people working, trying to make ends meet at fast food corporations that take in billions of dollars a year?

Why? So you don't have to pay more for food that's terrible for you? Duuuumb!

Start your own restaurant and pay your employees whatever you want, start them at $27 an hour. You're so smart, show us all how it's done. No..?? Can't do it Then STFU.

If you conveniently neglect the exodus of restaurant business from Seattle, because your Progressive mythology never holds up. Not sure about Australia, but I'm sure there is some critical element you "forgot to mention."

So again, how is it that you are entitled to tell someone how to run their business, spend their money or take it from them? Why is that not greedy, but it's greedy for me to keep what I worked for away from your ignorant schemes?

I'm not here to debate you. These are facts.

Yes facts from individual restaurant business who exist under the $7 minimum wage regime. Not facts from a national budget where the overall minimum wage, by law, is $15 and the wages all the way up to the maximum wage have been shifted with diminishing returns advocate spending over saving.

Just because you don't know how commerce works, don't know how big chain franchises work, don't know how that it is the employee skill set that determines compensation, not their "needs"... means I'm a racist in that walnut sized brain of yours.

And if your bed wetting liberal delusions about excess corporate profits are just sitting there, piles of money that stingy Republicans are keeping just to be mean, why wouldn't you want in and spread the wealth.

If it's so easy, why don't you show us how it's done? Become "obscenely rich" and give it all away to the saintly poor people who never steal from you if they even bother to show up for work at all.

Tell me this, you little ignorant moldy dog turd of a person... What makes you entitled to another person's money? What makes you entitled to tell them what to do with money THEY EARNED in a legitimate business?

You are entitled to nothing. You understand nothing, except your emotional outburst on topics you have no hope of comprehending. You insect.

Still waiting for your explanation why you are entitled to my money or how you are entitled to tell anyone what to do with their money, by the way. Still waiting for you to open a restaurant and start your dishwashers at $30,000 a year with full health benefits.

Let's not be coy, ninja. You've said many things that are extremely racist. Do I really need to remind you, or are you just that phony?

And I fully understand economics, commerce, and labor. Far more than you do. Economics is based on the false "assumption of more." I have news for you, you little billionaire-ass licking wannabe; the world'a natural resources are NOT infinite; in fact many are running low or close to being out. Economics is a false science because it operates on the premise of Infinite Growth. This is why big fat cat corporations are fighting so fiercely against scientists over climate change, renewable energy, and responsible environmental policy.

They don't want the gravy train to end. The same one YOU ain't on anyway, yet pledge your undying love for. Haha. Trump's Cabinet is full of Climate Deniers, an unabashed racist, and the obscenely rich. The political oligarchy has now revealed itself, because there's literally nothing we can do about them.

Why am I even talking about this shit with YOU? It's all waaay over your blocky head.

3 ups, 7y
Yes, please tell me how your assumption that economics is a zero sum game finds us not splitting up the same assets as our great grandfathers. There is an assumption of more, the Universe is a big place, you moron. In fact, it's so big, the Sun negates every myth you have about "man made climate change."

Figures you are one of those brainless climate Chicken Littles. Not to mention your hysterics because "we are running out of resources." We aren't even close to tapping Earth's potential, but you'd rather be hysterical because it is emotionally stimulating and anything is better than the slow death of boredom you would have otherwise. You know... because you are so fvcking useless.

Zero sum game + Green socialism mythology + politics of envy = liberals losing.

Volunteer work gets you some mad skills to pad your resume with.

Do you at least have a GED or high-school diploma? What's the next level of education that you could attain?

Or, just get a ski mask and a gun and rob a liquor store.

No wonder you know nothing... you're a child being brainwashed by a bunch of academic liars preaching from ivory towers who depend on tenure so they can fill your empty heads with a bunch of leftist moon-bat hogwash. Class dismissed.

Second year of college! Come back in 10 years when you know something, anything of value besides what you watched on Comedy Central. F**king millennials, useless as tits on a bullfrog, but godd@mned pleased with themselves.

There's two takeaways from this pointless flame war; Despite your blatantly obvious immaturity, you're actually older than I suspected. That makes you look even WORSE. lol!

The second thing is, I have about 2 years of college education under my belt. Not IN college. But that doesn't matter.

All I need to know is I'm being sassed by an old ass codger man. Senior citizen sassmouth. LMFAOOO

#1 From one vet to another - Thanks for your service
#2 You're exactly right, thanks for seeing my point - your CHOICES determine what's going to happen for the rest of your life. Make good choices (join the military, go to college) and you'll have a good life. Make bad choices (drop out of school, do drugs, have 4 kids by the time your 20, go to jail) then you're going to have a hard time.
#3 Graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Summa Cum Laud. I currently make almost $100,000 a year. You'll say that's just because of white privilege.
#4 I have a great attitude even though I'm sitting in the ICU watching my dad die two days before Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you and yours. I hope 2017 gives you more opportunities than the last eight years have.

I read through your rants and I must say, you're a misinformed idiot. Maybe you need to stop watching MSNBC and take an economics class. Flipping burgers will never be a "living wage" career. No matter how much the government interfears, all it will do is make automation a viable option. Several fast food joints have already replaced cachiers with keosks. Better to have a lower wage than no wage at all. But I don't expect you to understand that.

BlackAttack
Your rant makes no sense. What does any of that have to do with government regulating wages?
3 ups, 7y,

You don't know squat, especially about me. My first job, I was paid below minimum wage just to get my foot in the workplace door. I graduated from high school and went to college so I wouldn't be a grocery store bagger or a landscape worker or a low skilled furniture factory worker the rest of my life. And I wasn't eligible for student loans or pell grants. But thank God these low wage, low skilled jobs were available for me and my friends to help us make it through school. If the government forced employers to pay us more than the market rate, there would have been less entry level jobs available just like what's happening now.

Conservatives ARE compassionate. They teach people they can be self sufficient and not rely on welfare for their existence. Liberals, on the other hand, tell people that they can't make it on their own and want them to be forever dependent on government handouts so there's always a large population that will vote to keep them in power. But when the government can no longer support all those people, who do you think will suffer most? It will be just like Egypt with people rioting on the streets.

You forget that minimum wage applies to more than fast food. What about all the other entry level jobs that will vanish when it becomes more cost efficient to replace people? And those same workers will be paying two dollars more for their food, newspaper, groceries, etc. it doesn't happen in a vacuum. Like I said, take a course in Macro Economics before spouting your nonsense.

The problem I have is when people work the same job, but some are stuck there because of lack of education or skills, and some are there as a part-time job to make some cash after high school lets out.

A high schooler doesn't deserve to make $15 an hour flipping burgers, but how do you balance that with a living wage for someone who can't advance and they're both at the same job? How do you justify paying one $15 an hour because they're supporting trying to pay rent and/or support a family, and paying another person whatever minimum wage is because they're just starting out and want some extra cash?

Hours and wages are different things though. There still need to be jobs out there where the pay rate isn't a living wage.

I think one of the few ways to fix that would have to be you start at minimum wage, and there's minimum mandatory pay increases to get you to a living wage within 3 years.

At worst, say you start at $10/hr (I think at the lowest, that should be the national minimum wage), but you stay with a company for 3 years then you're earning at least $15/hr, with a minimum $1.33 increase a year until you reach a living wage. High school and college kids with more skills would move up on and to better jobs anyway hopefully, and those who need the livable wage would be able to get there relatively shortly.

How about if the company makes X dollars of profit per employee that dictates if they have to pay a living wage or minimum wage.

This would make corporations that make billions pay a living wage and Mon and pops could still pay minimum wages. Not sure what that number is but it's out there. joe's hardware could pay Timmy the high schooler $7/hour (or more if they chose to) but home depot would be forced to pay people living wages.

Corporate profits are at all time highs while real wages have been the same since the 90s.

What happens if that company dips below X dollars profit? Then do the employees drop from a living wage? Think of all the major retailers that have declared bankruptcy in the past few years.

I think it'd discourage people from applying to mom and pop stores too. I know if I had the option of working for big box instead of mom and pop and make more money for the same work I'd pick big box 10 out of 10 times. I think you'd end up getting bottom of the barrel at mom and pop stores too, those that big box couldn't/wouldn't hire end up being the scraps left.
[deleted]
1 up, 7y
The Mom & Pops COULD pay more if they wanted to. To get better people.

BUT- they wouldn't be forced to if they didn't make enough to do so.

It's what they complain about all the time about having a minimum wage increase.....they can't afford it.

Well- with this plan they can continue to pay lower wages....or more...if they can or want to.

It would also keep turnover lower if the proper protections were put in place (which would benefit employer and employee), by keeping employees from jumping from company to company, and possibly give them a better chance of getting minimal promotion.
