I never understood why people brought string lights either. :)

Some campgrounds don't allow campfires... Kids like them and more light

I was thinking after I posted that, that the string lights might attract less bugs at night too. My dad always took us camping during the off season in early spring and late fall. It was awesome to have the whole camping section to ourselves. :)

We did that too... One time the whole campground was empty

Years later I revisited one of my favorite campgrounds. The raccoons had gotten so accustomed to people that they came out of the woods at dusk and climbed the trees near the campsites and waited for us campers to go to sleep. Another night one was right next to me when I was sitting at the end of the picnic table. There was no fear in them anymore. Another time one growled at us even when we tried to scare it with a stick. I felt like the DNR should have done some kind of animal control at that point. Not that it was the animals' fault, they knew where to get food by then. Needless to say, I didn't want to go back there anymore. :)

Not a fan of raccoons right now (ate all my corn up) lol... But they are bad for getting in trash

imma be honest here, if you go camping with technology other than a flashlight and maybe a firestarter its not really camping at that point

I feel like anything you can carry in a backpack is fair game to have with you...but when you bring a "camper" and electricity with all the luxeries, I don't consider that camping either. But a smartphone is a literal lifesaver to have with you nowadays...

why i will agree with you there, i dont have a smartphone but yea a phone is ok to bring, but i have actually seen people go out with there tv, computer and other things like that, not really camping, im not even sure what it is at that point, now if you have a radio im cool with that.

Yeah...no reason to have a tv and computer....radio is kind of iffy...but the whole point is to get out and enjoy nature...I would totally have a gun of some kind...lots of bear attacks and mountain lions...not that having a gun would save you, but your chances of survival are damn sure better...LOL

that is true, though where i live i don't have to worry about them

Lol reminds me of going camping with my parents as a kid. In a pull-behind RV. In an RV campground. With cable TV and HBO. It was like living in a trailer park full of upper-middle class retirees.

I just upvoted all the comments, and the meme, for pretty much explaining to me why people like to pretend to be homeless. ;)

No, the pic isn't me. My beard wasn't that full back then. Also, I always wore shoes. The sign, however, was about right. Mom lived in Ohio.

My father and I were "in between" houses for awhile and we lived out of our truck for a few weeks...parked under a couple of bridges along the Missouri River...fortunately, it was during the summer so it wasn't that bad...

I considered it. But I had a booth at the market, and with no wheels (car was in wife's name and she kept it)

Got an apartment, a Jeep, and two cats. Next in the agenda is getting internet for the computer.
