Really, How Does This Happen? Who Is Looking?

Where the heck do all those views come from??????? ? :-)

I know it doesn't mean much, but every time you view your own meme, it counts as a view. Views aren't registered instantly like upvotes and downvotes are and sometimes will take a while for them to appear. This is why you sometimes see a new meme with 5 upvotes and only 2 views.

As for the 900+ views and no upvotes (7 now), I'm not really sure about that. If you share the meme on another site like Facebook or something it could be due to that. I've shared some of mine on my Facebook page and every time someone views it following that link, it'll count as a view, but they don't upvote it.

I don't have a facebook account, only pinterest and I never shared it there. But this has taught me a lot about how imgflip works which was the true purpose of posting this meme. I want to thank everyone for their help! (the 7 upvotes came from commenters)

No problem. I know you can get a lot of views if you're also on reddit and share it there, but outside of that I don't know.

One thing I've always been curious about is how views get totalled. I mean, when I upvote a meme, I don't click on the meme unless I'm going to comment on it. Does scrolling past a meme count as a view? I think it does, because if you'll notice on new memes, most of them will have about the same ammount of views. The exceptions are the anonymous memes which have far more because these are usually reddit users and they get far more views.

It's just a theory, but I think the theory is strong. How else can there be memes here that have over 20,000 views in some cases? Meme sharing can help, but I really doubt my memes are getting shared that often. And when your memes get on the front pages, I know not everyone is clicking on them.

Which brings me to another topic. I've noticed the front page memes don't get there thru votes and views and comments. It's random to say the least. Some have very few views / comments etc.

That's where I think other users will share the memes to other sites....

You'll see that it isn't really a user's profile, just a profile set up to represent this site. It doesn't show up on the site unless you click on it...Meaning it isn't on the leader boards or anything, but it is the "owner of ImgFlip's" profile.

I think imgflip.com/user/imgflip might be the profile that all anonymous submissions are assigned to.

I was thinking it was a ratio of views to upvotes. The most upvotes in coordination with views gets it to the front.

That explains the discrepancies. I've been paying closer attention and I've seen some trending to that direction.

do meme comments get a view every time the original meme is viewed? that might be how... some of my meme comments have a ton of views (and no votes)..

It was a template meme. Lots views zero comments. I'm curious that's all.

yeah i've wondered the same thing.. i think if an image sits there in the comment thread, piling up views, and then gets submitted days later... that might be it..

It featured a day later, and yes it originally was in a comment thread. But after featuring it got most of the views. I've seen this happen to others as well. All of these are good reasons. Thanks for helping.

I had one quite similar on my old account. Thousand(s) something(s) views. I wish there was a way to see who's viewing your stuff, like a stats option. If anything it would be entertaining.
