Like Nero, there is nothing they can do right now that won't agitate the larger mass. So they sedate themselves until they vote. Ever drink a beer on the days between work weeks?

You're too young to be jaded. Don't buy the hype. You can do a lot. But pokemon can be a nice break from it all too. Just like imgflip ;-) We all need our regrouping and recharging periods.

Many pokestops are near stores and small shops, so by you hanging out by them, you probably will be more likely to buy something; therefore, bettering the economy. That is why I chase Pokémon.
