All of the Abrahamic religions have terrible views of women and how they should be treated. The thing they all have in common is conservative religious dogma. It isn't just Islam, it's Christianity and Judaism too.

The real time prevalence means a lot as well. A culture that doesn't mind filming what it's highest Prophet says, is a troublesome one. Means it's not reached the feeling of shame even. In Christianity preachings have hierarchies. In Islam if you can get a bad Quran verse confirmed by referring to the Hadith, it's bullet proof.
Many Muslims want the Reformation that Christianity went through to become moderate cos they notice what the outsiders notice. That started with the translation of Bibles from Latin to European languages by priest Martin Luther (not with King at the end), and so people realized the clergy lied and God or Jesus never said that - only some irrelevant guy in history
