it's utterly ridiculous. it's not discord's responsibility to protect children. it's the parents' job.

Nah not at all crazy
I wouldn't even let my children (I don't have any children yet tho.) use Discord especially if they don't know that person irl. I even read stuff from the news about kids being groomed by preds.

Do u want children?

No, you are not crazy. The safest option is to play games that do not involve online chat. The companies that run these games with online chat and think they can make the online chat a safe environment are the people who are crazy.

actually no. i wouldn't be opposed to disallowing my children to use the app except to talk to people they're friends with irl that we know aren't going to try to groom them. (if i had kids)

u r not crazy 4 that I think that too there is some inappropriate stuff on there

I’ve been on discord for a while, in quite a variety of servers, and have yet to see any grooming. If kids just stay away from any “18+ sus 😳 hangout server” and adhere to basic online safety rules then they’ll be fine.

Except for blogspot, telegram, ect.

It's been almost a year since I haven't used that site. I used self-protection because that place is horrifying especially due to certain situations.

yeah, how it's basically become notorious for all the grooming that goes on there?
5 ups, 1mo
Due to the parents not protecting their kids enough

This question must be asked: If you upvoted this, are you a parent yourself?

GOOD QUESTION
0 ups, 1mo
i'll answer that question: no, but i've seen some pretty rough things on Discord that AREN'T involving kids getting dragged into 18+ environments. Legitimately had people pull up and just start insulting one of the mods (granted it was a Hazbin Hotel server that I've been in since like 2024 but nobody there really talks all that much about Vivzie's midslop) for no reason.

I have seen a different community server ban someone for being a creep. Said someone was actually briefly a server moderator but had a lot of issues.

TL;DR, it's just basic human decency that will keep you safe on the internet, let alone Discord. treat other people well and DO NOT TALK WEIRD TO CHILDREN

well, as a platform, discord DOES bear some of the responsibility of keeping their users safe. if they're gonna recommend themselves for 13+ ages, they need to be safe for 13 years olds as well.

but this idea their going with is absolute hog ass, so i'm still gonna upvote

Why are we flip-flopping between it being Discord's responsibility and the parents' responsibility for safety???
I get that telling whether you should use the app or not should probably be up to the parents... BUT IT'S DISCORD'S RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP PEOPLE SAFE, AND THEY'RE TERRIBLE AT EVEN THAT!!! DISCORD IS THE REASON IT'S A TERRIBLE AND DANGEROUS CESSPIT!

People seem to default to this excuse on why they shouldn't violate their 'privacy' to be able to talk to their friends. I don't think it's the right one...
The responsibility should go to both, not one.

months ago, they got huge database leak, now they ask for gov. ID card just to use this app.
I'm so questioned why not only this but other apps are forcing age verification. atp outside is soon going to be more enjoyable than internet.

What the f**k, seriously??

Discord is for ages 13 and over, yet you have to show them your ID because of age verification. Our world is confusing.
2 ups, 1mo
wait what is it locking behind id verification is it the whole site or some integral feature you probably shouldn't put behind it
