Sans serif fonts (e.g. Arial) looked better and were easier to read on old tube tv’s and CRT monitors, especially on rolling credits.

Serif fonts (Times New Roman) are easier to read in print and use less ink.

i tend to prefer Playfair Display or Spectral when I type. They're just the cooler cousins of Times New Roman.
