this is the other problem
authors keep on yapping about meaningless stuff rather than actually doing anything worthwhile with the plot or whatever, so what *could* be written in one page ends up being three pages long
it's only a good thing in some specific cases (for example, i'd enjoy a few pages worth about someone describing their custom built car, but that's only because i like cars, and not everyone will enjoy said few pages like i will), otherwise it's just filler and would be better suited to be included in supplementary material or whatever

The fisheye effect made me cackle

I suffered through all 642 pages of "Crime and Punishment" this summer for AP Literature. It was the most boring book that I have ever read. Most of my class just read twenty pages, decided that it wasn't worth their time, and read summaries of it on the Internet instead. Last year, we read "Lord of the Flies," which I found to be the worst book that I have ever read, and we read "Things Fall Apart," which was extremely boring.

There are a few good books out that that we read in school ("The Outsiders," "The Giver"), but most are just plain unpleasant.

my literature teacher last year let us choose any novel we wanna read

forced reading of mid tier books like harry potter in school literally made me dislike reading even though it's something i would've liked otherwise, llike i genuinely can't even read for fun anymore
