It turns out that there was a time when American men, many of them young, were forced into service to fight communists for their country. That was the Vietnam War, a conflict that lasted 20 whole years, resulted in almost 60,000 dead Americans as well as millions of dead Vietnamese, and tarnished the U.S. government’s credibility in the eyes of many of its citizens (and other countries) to the point that the false pretenses for the country’s involvement in the conflict are still used as fodder by conspiracy theorists. And we didn’t even win in the end in spite of having what should’ve been a far superior fighting force.
So yeah, even as someone with no special love for commies, I do think that what you proposed is, in fact, an extremely bad idea because it was basically already tried a long time ago, and all it did in the end was to foster a sense of distrust between American citizens and their government which has only gotten worse over time.
