We could use a similar requirement for our youth to serve some sort of service to their country and training on how to recognize communism.

Are you talking about the U.S.? Because if you’re talking about the U.S., then do I have a fascinating historical anecdote for you…

It turns out that there was a time when American men, many of them young, were forced into service to fight communists for their country. That was the Vietnam War, a conflict that lasted 20 whole years, resulted in almost 60,000 dead Americans as well as millions of dead Vietnamese, and tarnished the U.S. government’s credibility in the eyes of many of its citizens (and other countries) to the point that the false pretenses for the country’s involvement in the conflict are still used as fodder by conspiracy theorists. And we didn’t even win in the end in spite of having what should’ve been a far superior fighting force.
So yeah, even as someone with no special love for commies, I do think that what you proposed is, in fact, an extremely bad idea because it was basically already tried a long time ago, and all it did in the end was to foster a sense of distrust between American citizens and their government which has only gotten worse over time.

Selective service by young males during war is not the same. Public service requirement for youth teaches many things that are valuable in adult life.

As to the Vietnam war, there is no conspiracy. The communists wanted to make the entire country communist just like Korea. We fought that. We lost politically, militarily we won every battle. Tet was a disaster for the NVA and VC they admitted it was themselves later. It was made into a political victory due to commie sympathizers in our own country. Our loss was a series of political blunders as we are experiencing today. Traitors in the midst.

Regarding your first point: I assumed that when you used the word “service”, you specifically meant military service since the point of the meme on this page was to highlight the presence of women in the Israeli military in particular.

Regarding your second point: I still find your argument that we lost the war because of communist sympathizers in the U.S. government rather hard to believe. Again, I have no particular love for communists, but I still think America ultimately lost the war because we were too sure of ourselves even when we didn’t really know what we were doing. As for the false pretenses thing: here’s an article written by a U.S. Navy officer way back in 2008 in response to then-recently-declassified documents about the infamous Gulf of Tonkin Incident that the U.S. government ultimately used as an excuse to go to war in Vietnam. It may not point to a grand conspiracy per se, but I still think it’s a pretty good indicator of how reckless the U.S. High Command actually was during that time period: https://www.usni.org/magazines/naval-history-magazine/2008/february/truth-about-tonkin

I did mean military service and there is still a difference between a wartime draft and required service. It appears 85 countries have some form of required service. Probably even yours.

The cause of the war was communist aggression, America hating revisionists aside.Regardless of the Gulf of Tonkin the communists tried to take over the South just as they tried in Korea.

The 'cause' of the war was that France had a change of heart and wanted Indochina back under its rule. The Commie crap was just the excuse.

Why didn’t they enter the war directly though? The French, I mean.

I've been saying that for ages, about perpetual enemies and hate groups that hate each other, put them together and let them hash it out to their hearts content and get it over with already,,

Or the pro-Netanyahu-ists that blame Biden for not controlling the Palestinians, Hamas, or even Iran, and claim it's all America's fault, despite Israel being the largest recipient of US foreign aid, which Biden actually wants to significantly increase.

I really wish all those people would just face each other in real life and then fight however they liked over whose conspiracy theories were “actually” true without dragging all the rest of us into it. Preferably to the death.

They didn't enter it, they started it.

With their usual whiny demands they asked the US to assist as part of rebuilding France itself after WWII. Initially America didn't want to help European powers keep their colonies.

But there was concern that the French would seek Soviet help instead in rebuilding if we didn't do their bidding, and then Korea happened, so we got in with the Communism excuse. They then backed out, leaving the US with the mess which we gleefully continued to oblige because there were profits to be made by involved industries, so...

Sheesh… Don’t you just love it when the U.S. gets blamed for things that it didn’t even want to be involved in originally? Just like these “pro-Palestine” idiots who blame Joe Biden for not having sovereign control over Netanyahu’s (may HE rot in hell, by the way) actions. News flash: being powerful and influential in the world does not make America omnipotent.

The French gave up their claim to indocbona after 1954. Communist desire to take control of the entire country was the cause of the Vietnam War from US perspective. Just as they tried to absorb South Korea.

"We didnt start a war, the commies in the North started it. Commies love war, especially civil war."

We didnt start a war. Against their French colonizers? Who demanded we enter or they (the French) would themselves go Soviet?
No kidding.
0 ups, 10mo
Whatever. I don’t care who started the war; I still don’t think commie sympathies in the U.S. government were to blame for us losing so much as our high command not really knowing what they were doing from the get-go. If anything, your line of reasoning sounds like something that an actual dictator, communist or otherwise, would resort to as a way to deflect criticism.

Yes, then they changed their mind.
Didn't you see that when you looked it up?
1 up, 11mo
Doesn’t matter if they changed their mind, they left after 54 and partition. The commies in the north then tried to absorb the south.

How nice of you to apparently assume that Israel is the only country in the region where women aren’t required by law to cover their hair. You deserve an award for your groundbreaking sociological observations.
1 up, 11mo
Whatever. Bashar al-Assad has women fighting in his forces as well. Doesn’t make him any more of a feminist leader. Or someone capable of actually winning a war, for that matter.

Fewer dead Israelis too.
