They also killed a lot of Byzantine Christians and Jews though. Indeed, I believe their sack of Constantinople actually helped the Ottomans by weakening the city’s defenses, and the Ottomans were worse than many of the people they appropriated Islam from. So the Crusaders arguably just made any problems with Islamic civilization worse in the long run.
