Oh I know the background for the story, and I agree that when you originate something like that, you should get to choose how it's pronounced. My only problem is with the dude's timing honestly. Where was the big press conference when he created it letting us know it was jif? I have seen a good many debates and reasons for both sides over the long history of this topic. I mean it was over 3 years ago that Youtube added gif to it's pronunciation catalog as gif not jif because that's just how most people had accepted it and said it.
It's kinda like a guy naming his kid George on paper, only never saying it out loud just writing George when people asked what his kids name was. Some years go buy and somebody asks him, hey man, where is George today is he at Grandma's house or something? Then the guy looks right at him n says wtf are you talking about my kid isn't named George!? His name is Peter I just spelled it that way ;)
Granted a bit of an extreme example for naming something, I'm just thinking if dude wanted them called jifs he should have put the bong down and got off the couch to tell somebody before the whole world thought his kids name was George haha!
