I could not help myself. We are about to talk about the process of fertilization in my class. And there are 3 key events that happen once a sperm enters the egg.
1) the protein synthesis in the egg resumes
2) the sperm nuclei fuses with the egg's nuclei to form a diploid cell and
3) cell division starts up
The awesome woman in this clip has the perfect moves for this and I could not pass up a chance to mix memes and some Biology =D
Brittle stars are Bilaterans and under the Phylum Echinodermata, (along with sea cucumbers, sea stars , sand dollars and urchins). They are in the sub group: Ophiuroidea. Super interesting group!
Also, My apologies for the lack in image quality. It was super difficult to keep the phone camera still while looking through the eye piece of the microscope.
This was a video taken by myself at the Biology of Parasitism program in Woodshole MA. The worm is some type of cestode (a flatworm and tapeworm), though I am not sure of the species. If memory serves right this was likely extracted from the digestive tract of a robin fish (though I cannot remember for certain). This was one of the many species of parasitic worms we found in the several fish we dissected.
I noticed there are not many good cestode or tapeworm gifs out there so I hope this image helps someone especially if you are teaching a Biology class!
