Bernie is a democratic socialist, not a communist. His policies reflect this.

Communism and Socialism are the same. They are economic (not political) systems. Most people associate communism with totalitarian regimes, but that is not the distinction. However, when most people in this country identify as socialists, that is usually not what they really mean. They mean that they are in favor of extensive social programs, but still based on a capitalistic (though heavily regulated) economy.

socialism is the antidote to rampant capitalism, but will not lead to communism because of democracy, and that's why Bernie refers to himself as a 'democratic socialist'

if not communism, the next step from socialism is facism. remember that hitler's nazi party was democratically elected.

You are confusing an authoritarian government with socialism, and as you point out, this stigma comes from the world wars, but it is propaganda. The German Communists were one of Hitler's main competitors and he simply seized control because a majority vote was not needed under German law.

Hitler was indeed anti-communist. But that doesn't mean every facist government is going to be anti-communist, just look at the USSR.

Fascism is actually very far away from communism/socialism. In Fascism a dictator controls the lives of the people, while in communism no government exists, and the people have all the power.

find me a communist society where no government existed. throughout history, fascist and communist societies resembled each other more closely than any other 2 types of societies.

Communism is an economic system in which everything is owned by a classless society. The "communist societies" you are thinking of are socialist dictatorships. And Bernie Sanders advocates neither of these.
