That show greatly boosted the "Ásatrú" community, because... I don't know; Media culture, I guess. I haven't seen it, but I'm sure it's good enough to gain such a following. And while I think it's cool that some people actually care about the our traditions, it makes us norse traditionalists look like we're part of the "ásatrú" community as well, and/or bandwagoners. My family has been "holding the heathen hammer high" so to speak since about the 1800s, when worship of pagan gods was no longer criminalised or demonised by the general public.
So on top of the Canadian culture effect, I think we can safely add in Scandinavian culture effects too.
