But what we'd really need is a comparison of guns versus *all* homicides.

About 70% of murders caused by guns.

Both US and Japan?

Japan has a few gun murders per year, but the general murder rate is about 1/5 of the US. They have so few gun murders that they tend to lump 'attempted murder' and 'murder' together in their stats.

thank you. that helps the comparison :)

I don't think you analyzed the graph, it already shows the correlation of firearms. It is the main point of the graph.

US firearms per capita:1.126
US firearm homicides and suicides per capita: 0.0001039
US firearms per homicide or suicide: 10,837
US registered motor vehicles per capita: 0.809
US motor vehicle deaths per capita: 0.000103
US motor vehicles per motor vehicle death: 7,854

So it takes almost 11,000 guns to deliberately kill a single person in this country, but only about 8,000 cars to accidentally kill a person.

Comparing car deaths to firearm deaths has always been apples and oranges. Compare how many intentional murders by car.

Oh, I'm sorry. Is there something about being killed deliberately that makes you more dead than being killed accidentally?

Are you seriously unaware of harsher penalties for murder than involuntary manslaughter. So yes, big difference. Always been an incredibly dumb argument.

It seems to me that if you were concerned with preventing deaths, these numbers would be relevant.

So I guess you want restrictions on french fries first for heart disease deaths, and then tackle the main cause of murder? Logic fail intensifies.

I have to concur with video games making people violent, especially as the graphics get better.
Some people already treat video games with more importance than real life, but adults really aren't the problem, it's kids. When you let your young, impressionable 7 year old child play GTA or CoD, it desensitizes them towards violence, and instead of being repulsed, they don't really care. Add a bit of natural crazyness, and boom, you have a mass murderer, if he gets the chance.

Before video games, kids treated books as if they were real life.

Are you serious kids would have hatred words books

But before there were video games to play and cable TV to watch, for many of us books were an excellent alternative to being handed a list of chores because we said we were bored. Not everyone hates to read.

Your an idiot. I was playing Mortal kombat 2 when I was in kindergarten. I had GTA 3 when I was in 3rd or 4th grade. No violent or mass murder tendencies here. Only thing playing violent video games did was make me love video games. Its a shame when people try to blame works of art for people's behavior. Instead of realising some people are just crazy. And only retards think playing make believe, will cause someone to harm others.

yeah i feel like people overreact about violent video games... like if i played saw or something i wouldn't want to put people in a giant bear trap and say to them "the key is inside your head"
