I got to see them with Jerry a bunch of times 91-95. Although the groups after jerry (the dead, the other ones, furthur, and as recent as dead & co with john mayer) there is NOTHING like a GRATEFUL DEAD show!

(Although Dead & Co is the tightest post-jerry group...they are smokin.)

I only got to see them once in California but it was a very trippy experience lol. John Mayer doesn't get credit for his blues roots, of course he puts out a lot of pop type stuff also, but his live blues performances are damn good.

Dude John Mayer Trio is no joke. His n last 2 albums were more "jammy" than pop and his total embrace of the dead is really hopeful.

I'll have to catch up on what he has been doing, glad you mentioned it!

One of those crazy hard to believe stories, but my aunt told me she actually took guitar lessons from Jerry Garcia before the Grateful Dead was even a band. Even I had trouble believing her, but where I grew up it was definitely possible I suppose.

He taught at a place called Dana Morgan's in Palo Alto

Yeah I know, that's where my Aunt is from. I have 18 cousins all over the bay area and a few other states. Not all from her lol, but yeah huge family out there.

Lemmy's funeral is going to be off the chain. I hope they turn it into a tribute concert. He worked and influenced with so many bands...Metallica, Ozzy, to name but two. He was even a roadie for Hendrix!

Well done. Besides the obvious loss, it just grinds my gears that it happened in my home state and that the shooter was a Marine.

It's just a horrible situation, and if our country took better care of it's vets it probably wouldn't have happened....

Dude, there are still plenty of awesome metal bands out there, some of them not that old, it's just all those crazy emos, when they hear those bands' music scoff, hypocritically claiming "that's not metal", then walking away. Try looking up "Bandemonic", "Orden Ogan", or "Mystic Prophecy", or maybe something else if you think they sound like crap!

True story, after I found out that Lemmy died I told my wife "Did you hear that Lemmy died?" and she said "You mean Meadowlark Lemon?" (They died on the same day or with a day of one another.) Metal fail!
