I personally hate the idea of declawing cats. I just think it's cruel and inhumane. I have a declawed cat (adopted from the streets because she got thrown out, we didn't declaw her) and whenever I see her trying desperately to scratch the floor, it just makes me pity her. Seriously, seeing her try to find something to scratch is just sad. :(

I had a declawed cat at one point. She would lick her paws then try to stratch something. :(

The problem is that a lot of pets would be placed in shelters if people weren't allowed to declaw or neuter them. Not all the animals that get placed in shelters get adopted. Zzzzzzzzzz if you know what I mean. Most people are going to choose their $3000 living room set over their cat's claws.

That's not the problem in my eyes, so much as the "result."
The "problem" is assholes with no foresight having pets.
Had they valued the life of the creature aside from just wanting a cool living toy, the whole "f**k it, let's dump Fuzzy off at the Humane Society," thing doesn't come into play.

I always see white trash families with more dogs and kids than they can feed. And their dogs of choice are usually untrained pit bulls. Just an observation.

We don't really have a living room "set" or anything. My other cat mostly scratches the carpet, and the couch seems to be able handle it.

Soft Paws are the "humane version of declawing", and put a little cover over the cat's claws that keeps them from destroying things. Or scratching people.

It may not have claws, but it has the clap.

Hahaha! She has her own theme song: "clap on! Clap off! Clap on, Clap off...the Clapper!" It goes into remission but always comes back!
