If God doesn't exist why would humans have the capacity for profound love and thought? What purpose does our pondering our existence serve? What is the reason for the binding tie of human sentimentality? How are we more fit for survival, than any other beast, in a Darwinian world, with the aforementioned traits? Would a shark be a better shark if it had the capacity to regret the pain it inflicts on other sea creatures? Would a cockroach be better suited for suviving a nuclear winter if it had aspirations of being more than a cockroach? Why would natural selection endow us with traits that are superfluous and inconsequential to our survival, if not a detriment? We are now mere accident.
