If you SINCERELY believe that, then THIS is how you make that happen...

The difference is though, school is a required place for general knowledge. Church is an optional place of worship. Churches can omit evolution and scientific meetings can ommit creationism.

We should also teach to accept others beliefs, for that's something some people struggle with.

Why don't we NOT teach religion in schools since religion is the student's choice? If they want to be atheist, let them be atheist. If they want to be Christian, let them be Christian. I personally don't believe teachers should have the right to push their religion onto their students, whether it's Christianity, Muslim, Atheism, whatever.

its easier if they are not taught directly, but in a philosiphy class to teach students the variety of beliefs different people have around the world, and the student can make the personal choice there. no admendment controversy, no bullshit, just solid equal education.

But its ok to push the theory of evolution, down our thoughts and in our society

There's a huge difference between evolutionary theory and the scientific theories you mentioned in your comment. The difference is that the scientific theories you described can be subjected to verification through the observation and testing of repeatable phenomena. Evolution does not fit that category.

Evolution should be taught in schools, but it should be taught as part of the cultural background of the West, or in history class (or perhaps even philosophy). It doesn't deserve to be taught as science.

And is that because you BELIEVE in evolution and everyone should believe what you should believe?

Teaching religion to kids =/= forcing religion on kids

Favoritism=/= censorship. What about Islam then?

islam, judaism, and christianity go hand in hand. read beginning chapters of each about the first people and that great flood. very similar aren't they? even islam accept the christian messiah as a great prophet/religious figure. similar history, similar rules, similar prophets and messiah beliefs. though some disagree, i say they worship the same god, just have different beliefs in what he did for them.

Buddhism, Hinduism, Shintoism? what about paganism?

idk, my mother's pagan, but im still wrestling with its relationships(very hard, their scriptures are very vague and show little similarities.)

what i am trying to say is that it would be impossible to fairly include all religions, so you should only teach things that are scientific
[deleted]
0 ups, 10y,

that can be done no problem, what i was trying to was try to connect the different religions through their own scriptures(fun fact, jesus used buddhaism as one of his teaching models)

It's not censorship if they remove god from the pledge. It's just not choosing sides
[deleted]
0 ups, 10y
well, i say they keep it there, BUT if one does not wish to say it that way then they have every right to not say it and say the pledge how they believe is right.

Sure, why not? If you're going to teach one, might as well teach all.
1 up, 10y
No, you HAVE to teach all. And that's impossible because there are just too many

Removing christian symbolism from schools is not censorship, it's called upholding the 1st amendment. Perhaps you should read it sometime.

Actually it goes completely against the first amendment. The freedom of speech and religion, anyone?
2 ups, 10y
No, its completely within accordance with our first amendment. You have freedom of religion, but you do not have the freedom to push your beliefs on others. Schools are public property paid for by our tax dollars (except for in cases of private schools) Religious symbolism of ANY kind has no place on our public property. It's not oppressing your religion when I prevent you from pushing it down other people's throats.

*cough bullshit *cough. "...or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.." this says otherwise because the school is not congress yet congress is trying to rule against the right to express religion. if there is a religious figure already established, the congress has not right under this quote to interfere with it. if others dont believe, then they should ignore it like most tolerant people do.

your mistake is ASSuming i would be that rude. id just tell him how the religions are actually similar and just believe in what they want to believe.
1 up, 10y
Taking down religious symbolism does not prohibit the free exercise of your religion. This is public property we're talking about, except for the case of private schools. If you want to open a private school and hang all the religious symbols that you want, you are certainly free to. But when its public property being paid for by public tax money, religious symbols do not belong there.
