First off, you left out the word "but" -and before you claim he didn't say "but", watch the whole presser. Honestly, Trump has well-established rep for being a moron but that surprised me; it was one of those "wait... what?" moments that make you roll back the video to be certain you heard what you heard. And sure enough, he said it. I mean... he's stupid, no doubt, but I didn't think he was that stupid.

Second, the sentence "I don't want to deal with them but they're scum." demonstrates preference for scum and, by extension, a predilection for scumbags because scum and scumbags are part of the same character sphere.
