The idiot who commented disagrees for some reason

You mean me? Kids shouldn't worry about fascist governments til their parents teaches them about it. All social media does is that it takes lives of innocent kids (via suicide) and spreads lies.
Exhibit A. Users can use AI to make a woman with a perfect body to shame others into killing themselves. by depression.
Exhibit B. Social media companies sell user data to other companies for various purposes. Exhibit C. Social media is a way for dumb people to make up sh#t and tell people false medical advice (Like the Tide Pod Challenge which took many lives).

Your comeback, mister "Lack of social media makes the government track you and shields kids from a fascist government"?

Think I can't make a comeback? Alright let's go over them all
A. AI chatbots aren't even real social media, channels like Deep Humor and Cyber Waffle haven't even covered Character AI's Age Verification for a reason. Speaking of AI, they're the things USED for verification, literally EVERY Age Verification thing on Social Media involves AI verification, hence why it's also referred to AI Age Verification

B. And you're advocating for the solution to be giving those companies your ID, which is your most valuable piece of info

C. Here's a solution:PARENTS can manage their kids feeds it wouldn't be happening and also PARENTS to help their kids determine what's real or not. PARENTS can also NOT buy their kid an IPad, you ever consider that?

Also if you hate social media and feel it only brings negativity to this world, why are you using it?

Oh and you STILL HAVEN'T acknowledged 70K IDs being leaked on Discord as a result of their compliance to the Online Surveillance Act

OR, kids could just, not give the government their ID and maybe learn to play outside. It's not one or the other.

AND you don't HAVE to give a website your ID.
0 ups, 2w,

Well YOUR solution, because you're agreeing with the social media ban as a solution, it means you're advocating for the ID checks
0 ups, 2w,

Sure, ID checks could filter the websites a minor will be allowed on. BUT, like you pointed out, companies store the ID card in their system. I'm surprised you're not paranoid about putting in your credit card with that mindset

There are things you can actually do with Credit or Debit Cards if they get stolen, you can contact the bank, though I mostly prefer to use cash anyways
Also what stance are you taking right now?
Because if you support UK's Social Media Ban, you support the companies collecting IDs because that's PART of that law
If you're against the companies collecting your ID, you are against the Social Media Ban since companies collecting ID is PART of that law
It's one or the other, you can't have both

maybe... we could have the social media ban without collecting iDs?

Explain your thought process then

The government could force schools to ban social media websites via router.
0 ups, 2w
It has to be the government? 😭
0 ups, 2w
well, it doesn't HAVE to be the government. Schools could just block it altogether
0 ups, 2w
Also I love how we're assuming this is happening during school only

... now that I see things from your perspective, you may possibly potentially be right.

Do you also not realize this has consequences for adults too?
0 ups, 2w
I do. Adults can screw themselves over if they want to. A small arguement on the internet will not change much, if anything.

While in your shithole country anyone who criticises the Trump Administration is arrested.
Who are you to talk? Besides getting your news from social media is dumb, which is why most conservatives are politically inept fools.

Again, no proof. You really do have no clue what Britain is like, you've probably never left the US.
You see it as a paradise because you have nothing to compare it to, got to nearly any other country and you'll see how flawed the US is.

I'm sorry are we having this debate on a post talking about needing to fork over your ID(That they hold onto for up to 3 years) to use the Internet?

Only because conservative fascist took the UK out of the EU.

The main subject of this post is the thing we should focus on, the Social Media Ban, which thank goodness you aren't defending because only dumbasses think it's actually for the kids, anyone else with a brain knows it's to take away your privacy

I'm Australian-British and I'm VERY happy about both of my countries banning social media for under 16s. There are so many bad things on social media that have in the past driven children mad and we need to keep the next generations safe.

So forking over your ID for the government to spy on you is a good thing to you?

Or parents could restrict access to social media by blocking it using Apple's screentime settings or blocking it on their home router.
1 up, 2w
1. This comment doesn't involve you
2. Yes but the main point is there shouldn't be a LAW that makes it illegal to even use the internet if you don't fork over an ID. With YouTube specifically, a kid with a kid account can have restricted settings is more safe than them just being permanently incognito, which is what the social media ban does until ID is forked over
3. Restricting access never required a LAW, it was made not out of law, but our of knowledge
1 up, 2w
Lmao no response to what I said
Also 70K Discord IDs were leaked after UK enforced Online Surveillance Act onto social medias so yeah very safe indeed

If a politician's policy isn't sensible enough to convince adults and has to use the old line, "it's for the childrens' sake", their policy can't stand on its own.

Just like our socialists the ones in the UK will default to pretending to protect children as a distraction, because they have no idea how to stop the rape gangs. They can't stop the rape gangs without getting some muslim organization to speak out about the rape requirement in the koran. Any muslim that would do it would be at risk from other muslims. Their solution is to distract, no different from the trolls on this stream.
