It would also force parents to be parents. To mold them into productive members of society. Too many parents don't care if their children even learn anything anymore. It might cause our local churches to step up as well. Many are forced to abdicate filling basic needs by mandating only government approved industries be allowed to aid, feed, and house individuals. I've read of churches prohibited from opening their doors to the homeless in the winter months and even the hot summer months. We are told to shelter our pets during such times but are forbidden to shelter our fellow humans?

It's sad that there are so many apathetic parents.

That's another problem with our society-people get more upset about bad things happening to animals than about bad things happening to humans. Last time I checked, humans are running this planet, not animals.

Good teachers tell of parents who won't read to their children at any age. "That's the teacher's job". "I don't have time." "You are giving them homework?"
Society as a whole does care more for animals than people. We don't want stray animals roaming our streets, but a human...addicted to drugs or alcohol.. or mentally ill, living amongst cardboard boxes on our streets..we will give them needles, narcan, etc. and leave them wandering in their addictions. They are used by the politicians to get funds that never seem to go where the funds need to go. A few churches have started advertising night time services as a way around the regulations against opening their buildings after dark.

Now that's just awful. My parents taught me to read when I was three years old. I remember reading "The Magic School Bus" series of books, "The Polar Express" and "Where The Wild Things Are", to name a few. And that's not all they taught me. Both my parents taught me to cook (Dad taught me to cook on the grill, Mom taught me to cook on the stove). Dad taught me how to mow the lawn, pull weeds, cut small trees down, and yank up roots. Dad also taught me car maintenance, such as how to change the oil, how to change a tire, how to change the brake pads, how to change the air filter, and one time he even took one of the doors off of a car and took the door apart. Dad also taught me how to paint, how to install electrical outlets and switches, and how to use power tools such as circular saws. Mom taught me how to write, how to sew, how to be artistic, and how to get the most for your money.

To give you some hope, there are a few groups of people who recognize killing people is worse than killing animals. When the American Film Institute created their list of best cinematic heroes and worst cinematic villains, I was glad to see they ranked the Evil Queen from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937) as a worse villain than Cruella DeVil from "101 Dalmatians" (1961). Yes, stealing dozens of puppies with the intent of killing them to use their skin for a fur coat is bad. But if you're the queen of a country, wanting to murder your own stepdaughter, who is also heir to your throne, just because she looks prettier than you, is a whole lot worse.

Law enforcement should let churches open their doors whenever they please, regardless of the reason, and focus their energies on real crime. There are plenty of wild drivers, con artists, wife beaters, thugs, drug dealers, rapists and murderers out there. Leave the churches alone.

We were raised at a time and by parents that understood their roles. That we needed tools to survive and maybe thrive in society. Back when work was not beneath us. I also learned to read early. To understand the value of money and hard work. Car repair, cooking, and sewing as well. Back then, consequences were recognized as something we would experience if the clearly outlined boundaries were crossed. The world hates God. They can't allow those in need to think of our churches as an option. It interferes with their agenda of "government is god".."government is the provider". They need the church members and followers of Christ to make way for the government. The "government recognized providers" "funded" out of taxpayer funds can't be interfered with...for some reason.

Same here. All of those lessons were natural, needed, expected, welcomed, & built on. The teaching & the learning were never finished. They continue till the day you die.

It’s so sad that those natural family values have been tossed aside —even shunned— for what? DEPENDENCY. Tear down every building block, so that people cannot be self-sufficient, but instead, weak & needy. Pathetic.
