Gen Z: People are getting dumber. Turned out Gen X was the peak

Know why Gen X is peak. Because everything we aimed for from culture to political office was an uphill climb and fight on a vertical cliff. We were so under represented it was mind boggling when came to things like being elected to congress/senate.

Now we got people like AOC who was handed everything on a silver platter and thinks she and others like her can rule over the rest of us.

My Gen X parents recognize this all too well, to the point where they sometimes call me (Gen Z) an "honorary member of Gen X."

In my opinion, it's strange. I've never thought that the way I conduct myself is really exceptional in any way, but compared to some of my so-called "peers" it arguably is. The more time I spend on the Internet (and even in public, occasionally), the more shocked I am by how so many people my age seem to get off on being incredibly disrespectful and antisocial for no reason whatsoever. Some of them also seem to view being unintelligent as something to boast about, which is actually kind of terrifying.

I don't claim to be perfect in any way. However, compared to some of the people I've met, I'd say I'm not doing too badly.

Your parents did a great job raising you if they see you as an "honorary member of Gen X".

Too many people see being gracious, polite and respectful as a sign of weakness, mainly because they have no respect for the people that you respect. They believe that deep down, you hate the people you respect just as much as they do, but you're too scared to express that hatred.

You can complain about the symptoms and fail, or go after the root causes and succeed. Here are the root causes of why screens have become so prevalent in the lives of ypung people:

1. Lots of kids have to come home to empty houses after school because both parents have to work.
2. Lots of kids live ina apartment complexes where there is no nature nearby, or in dangerous neighborhoods where they don't feel safe leaving their houses unless it's absolutely necessary.
3. Many parents feel giving their kids smartphones or tablets is the best or only way to keep them occupied or out of trouble, especially if they can't afford alternative activities. And most kids don't see reading a book as a viable alternatuve activity.
4. Many kids get their kids smartphones to keep them from being social outcasts. The way I see it, if you're a parent, the more friends your kid has, the less power you have. Your kids can have friends, but they shouldn't aim to be the most popular kid in school. Focus on quality over quantity.
5. Words don't always have power. You may be able to make your kids believe anything you tell them when they're little, but your words will have less sway over them once they turn ten, and especially when they become teenagers. And the scary part is, kids who don't believe what adults say to them are often too polite or too scared to voice their doubts.
