Maybe carbon monoxide poisoning sounds like a more appealing way to die than freezing to death in his eyes. Also, if you die of carbon monoxide poisoning, it would be easier for the coroner to cut you open and perform an autopsy, whereas if you freeze to death, the skin would be much more rigid and possibly even encased in ice.
