There are places not appropriate and possibly even unlawful to take a weapon. One of those places is a protest. Doing so makes the protest no longer peaceful.

He brought his own permit gun to the demonstration. He was armed.
Law requires as a permit holder you cannot attend demonstrations with your gun...he had no business bringing it. Leave law enforcement alone.
Same reaction when cops pull over a speeding driver who has a gun in the car: they will go on defense.

I said inappropriate. Legality depends on location and local laws. I agree, not all laws are constitutional. But in the meantime, they are laws and they get enforced with consequences.
