From my small understanding, People summit Everest in the month of May, generally.

This time of year, they are only hiking to within 10k feet of the summit.
18k is a significant achievement to reach basecamp in October,
and one can get a great view of the top of the world from there w/o actually being on the top of it.

That a Mountain Range of that Magnitude gets a snowstorm at any time of year is of no surprise.
It is quite possible at any elevation over 8k anywhere on the planet.
The newsworthiness, is the amount of humans walking around at that elevation

I just think that it's become more of a tourist attraction for the Uber rich than an actual challenge to overcome especially when they're paying other people to do the hard work for them

There is a Glamping Industry,
and many a fit Mountain guide making a living giving fat rich people incentive to get in shape,
So, they can lead their asses up to 14k within the USA,
call it an accomplishment and send them back home to their day jobs in a cubicle selling insurance.

Yes, there was a panorama view of it I saw a while ago, I should have saved that pic. The sherpas do go pick up trash once a year when it's not peak season, they of course can't get it all though. When it is peak season there is a line that forms to reach the peak and people get 30 seconds each to get thier selfie with the big grin and sunglasses and it only cost them more than most people make in an entire year.

So I have a hard time caring when nature slaps them in the face, I'm more concerned whether the sherpas make it back down alive than the trust fund tourists, and I'd be much more impressed if those same people went and attempted K2, but they know better than that, they could get hurt or die on that one.

Ever see people climb vertical as it gets cliffs with nothing but their hands and maybe the the most minimum of safety equipment? I'd like to see these elite wannabes try that.

Yeah I was watching Red Bull channel one day there were two people trying to climb El Capitan taking a route that hadn't been used before they were doing just that and then also doing that thing where they attach a sleeping mattress to the side of the cliff for overnight rest they got about most of the way up and there was supposed to be a rope hanging down the people had left there for the final part of the climb somebody cut the rope because they didn't want to see them make that attempt
