I've been there, crossed the line with my drinking and lost everything back in '06, lived in my car for a few years. The first winter I was able to tolerate, the second got so F-ing cold I couldn't take it anymore, -22 without windchill, opening a can of beans to eat that had ice crystals in it. As much as I didnt want to quit drinking the cold overrode it. Volunteers of America had a better program, 90 days, first 30 get a job, second 30 show signifigant savings, third 30 get into an apartment and move forward but they were all filled up. Salvation Army is a scam, your trade is working for them in the warehouse and getting 3 hots and a cot and $20/week, but they had a bed available, they told me they had 117 beds and 112 were filled up I said I'd take one. Started my years of sobriety because "when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of changing, that's when you'll change". A person has to want to quit drinking and using, no one can tell them they have to. Trump is increasing the pain on them, not saying "there, there, let me give you a govt. handout" that in the end does nothing more than keep them stuck in thier living hell.
