They never had a formal ceasefire with Hamas. They launched the strikes because Hamas refused to release the hostages.

Gaza is a city with terrorists using civilians as human shields. Those are the only civilian casualties. Every death is the fault of Hamas.

83% of citizens in Gaza are civilians. Let's take a ballpark estimate and say 9,000 people are killed, and 65,000 are injured. Giving Israel some slack, let's also say that they're at least aiming for terrorist, and 70% civilians are in the mix of numbers. That's still 6,300 civilians dead and 45500 injured.

Thats what happens in urban combat, and especially when one side uses civilians as defence. It would suck.
