I agree they shouldn’t do this, but the reason for the 20% beating the dragon is because tens of millions of people buy the game just to play creative

the eyes aren't the thing that need an update. it's the end itself

The main problem with this imo is not the need to go exploring and interacting with minecraft, it's that you need at most twelve eyes of ender to light the portal. If you're going to make getting the materials for the eyes more difficult, then we either need the crafting recipe to make more of them, remove the chance for them to break when thrown, or both.

Also, I don't play minecraft for progression and doing more progression gatekeeping could probably really ruin it for me. However I argue that's a more personal problem.

Yeah this would be a problem since you need 12 eyes of ender just to light the portal, and probably more to get there since ender eyes can break so I get that the idea behind this was that players will explore more, but getting prismarine shards will be harder since ocean temples barley spawn and the blue shard (I forgot the name) is hard to get while running from a warden, let alone 12.
