To be fair, it's a bit more nuanced. They generally don't want to do those jobs maybe partly because they balk at the idea of hard manual labor and can't hack it. But you also have to factor in strong societal stigma in countries where so many are expected to go to college/university, and they don't want to be exploited by large often profitable multinational companies for survival wages on often temporary insecure contracts.

(Of course they're not all big companies turning over billions and making tidy profits for their shareholders and CEOs; you also get plenty of small-scale farmers who barely make ends meet themselves and can't afford to pay high wages, but sweating in the fields/greenhouse/warehouse for 12+ hours a day on minimum wage in a job with few to no career prospects is not what a lot of college-educated people had in mind when they got into lifetime debt and did more exams than any generation before them, that their parents' generation often didn't even need to get a permanent job that at least paid the rent and allowed them to raise a family with some modicum of dignity.)

Bit of a Catch-22: If young people don't do these jobs, they're called lazy; if they do, they get called losers and failures or even "dropouts".

They're not losers or dropouts, those are "starter jobs" for kids who want the money because their parents dont give them an allowance. My first job was as a dishwasher, it was sub minimum because I was 15 but I did it because I wanted the money and didnt get an allowance. I eventually became a cook for various restaraunts but realized I had to go to school if I ever wanted to make real money. So I joined the Army to get the school money all because nothing was ever handed to me, I had to work and learn along the way.

(Most) kids these days dont have that type of motivation, everything is handed to them, they dont know what it means to need to work, they're told to go to college and mostly get worthless degrees in gender studies or whites are evil 101, then are forced to actually take one of those starter jobs while spitting in your burger because they're so disgruntled to pay off a debt they never should have incurred. I believe colleges raking in dough handing out worthless degrees should be on the hook for a good portion of that debt, they knew it was a bait and switch to begin with.

If we could return to the day tweens to teens actually took jobs delivering papers, washing dishes, picking fruit, cutting grass they would learn in those days the need to go to school to get a degree in something society needs and values that would employ them for life in something they actually want to do, giving them motivation to learn and earn a degree while in college rather than going from one kegger to the next and looking forward to spring break in Florida or Mardis Gras (party party party).

Even after the Army I wasn't sure what I wanted to do but one day saw the ad for heat and AC school and said to myself "you know what? I dont care how bad the economy is, how deep of a depression we might be in, no matter what it's gonna be cold this winter and people will pay me to keep them warm". And pay they do, especially in the summer. I just told a lady yesterday, in the winter it's a variation of I'm so happy to see you, we're so cold. In the summer though it's "why the F aren't you here yet?!? I'm sweating my balls off!!" It pays, it aint going anywhere, and at this point in my career I have work looking for me.

Except that it has been confirmed by employment statistics that legal citizens are flocking around to get the jobs just lost by illegals. So there goes that traditional leftist jobs 'theory'.

Do you have compelling evidence people are "flocking" to fill these jobs, as you say? I think a lot of vacancies that were done by workers from overseas are slowly getting filled, but there's a huge labor shortage in plenty of sectors right now in countries that have got tough (agriculture, construction, elderly care, to name a few). Ideally, reform the system first, then get tough on immigration. Or do both at once. We did it the wrong way round.

You would need a huge societal and cultural shift and a lot of clever policies to get local, legal (or even "native") citizens to replace en masse the jobs that are being emptied, and I don't think that will happen overnight. Meanwhile, fruit is rotting in fields... It's a big mess, at any rate.

They might be, but as soon as they hear the pay rate they say no. They expect 25/hr for a job that pays 5. Illegals have driven that pay rate down, but if you want your fruit at reasonable prices a balance needs achieved and American teens need to realize any job that can be categorized as unskilled labor will never pay what their expectations tell them it should.

Except that is not what's happening. Myth . . . busted.

So what is happening? Please explain why most American teens would rather play thier XBOX than work an entry level job.

I personally don't believe that any job is "unskilled". Some jobs obviously require a lot more training than others but anything people are willing to pay you for still requires some skill. Anyway, that's a minor point.

I also don't think it's quite as simple as young people being too snobbish and expecting the world on a plate. Sure, they can't get 25 an hour to work in fast food because that makes no business sense. But they should still be able to get a living wage working full time and live with some dignity.

Aside from that, I probably agree with your general idea.

Only 1.5% of all farms, half of whom sold $1 million or more in product, employ migrant workers.

Half of the migrant workers are illegal.

The H2A temporary agricultural worker visa program has certain requirements that must be met. Employers petitioning for farm workers must provide transportation to and from the workers’ home countries. They must provide housing and either a food preparation area or access to prepared food. The employer must provide full-time work and wages in accordance with standard wages for American farm workers. The workplace must meet all federal and state safety, hygiene, and environmental mandates.

THE H2A VISA PROGRAM WAS BASICALLY DESTROYED BY MAYORKAS....TO BE REINSTATED WILL TAKE ALMOST A YEAR...
