After the events of Chapter 5...

Calais and Blobbi sat in a comically long limousine, on a straight path to the king's - Xorus' - castle. It was heading over a great canyon, on a thin bridge, towering over the black fields below it.

In the limousine, was Peyton, who had organized the ride for them as thanks for their help in her show. Alongside her, was her hulking bodyguard, George. He barely fit in the car. He was also reading a classic book, or at least that's what Calais thought it was based on its appearance.

"So..." Peyton started, trying to create small talk. "What do you guys plan to do after you get out of here?"

Blobbi responded. "Well... we don't know exactly, but we know our destination. I think we do, anyways."

"Oh?" Peyton asked. "Could you tell me where? If you don't mind of course, I'm just curious."

"Well..." Blobbi said. "The explanation of why we need to get there is PRETTY long..."

"Hey, we've got another two-ish hours before we reach the castle, so I don't mind." Peyton replied.

"Alrighty then, so, I'm a blob right? Well the reason is..." Blobbi's voice faded.

Calais stared out the window, zoned out. She was deep in thought about many topics. How did she end up here? Where did she come from? She had this distant feeling... a spark of love for someone she never knew. Or had she? She didn't want to think about that too much. She moved her mind to other questions, like:

Who was that figure standing on top of that spire? Why was he drawing a sword? And most of all-

Why was he lunging towards the car at extreme speed?

There was yet another slash of blue light directly down the spot Calais was sitting. She just barely jumped out of the way, unfortunately Blobbi wasn't so lucky. He was chopped clean in half, along with the car they were in, even the bridge they were on, and they began to plummet yet another time.

Calais and Blobbi were falling fast into the great canyon below, and Calais, despite suffering 3 almost-deadly falls, still didn't know what to do.

Blobbi was in pieces, but a little part of him was moving towards her. She reached out and grabbed it, and it morphed into a tiny version of himself.

"Uh... where am I..." Blobbi said as he became conscious again.

Calais squeezed him tightly to wake him up before they f*cking died.

"ACK- JEEZ-" Blobbi choked out. "What the hell!? Wait is that offensive here?"

Calais squeezed him tighter.

"GA- OK OK-" Blobbi realized the gravity of the situation. Literally. He felt himself plummeting.

"OH NOT AGAIN-" Blobbi cried. "WE'RE GONNA DIE! FOR REAL THIS TIME!"

Calais didn't know what to do, and clearly Blobbi didn't either. And they no longer had time to think, as the void-like plains below them grew ever closer.

As they were about to hit the ground, something interesting happened...

Another slice of light, almost bending time itself around it, as their fall slowed extremely. It lasted for just a second, but it saved them nonetheless.

They fell normally again, and plopped onto the ground. Both extremely confused.

Calais looked around. They were in a kind of marsh, colored an inky black, the life in it withered, yet unyielding. It was unsettling. She knew they were in the thick of it now...

(I'm going to tear your genitals off if you even dare.)

Calais stood up and began to try and find a way out of the strange and creepy marsh...

Blobbi clung to Calais trying to avoid any potential hazards in their surroundings, unaware they were already in one.

Calais accidentally stepped into the edge of a very large puddle of... something like mud. She shrugged it off, and pulled her leg out of the sludge. Or tried.

A coal-black skeletal hand reached out and tried to pull her down into the black pit. She jumped, kicked it off her frantically, but more arms reached out and grabbed at her.

"AHH!" Blobbi exclaimed in suprise. "OH CR- UH-"

Blobbi, without a chance to think, wrapped his body around Calais and pulled as hard as he could. It helped a little, but it quickly backfired, as Blobbi slipped and was pulled into the sludge himself, and began to mix with it.

"OH GOD-" Blobbi cried as he slowly became one with the black goo. "I DON'T WANNA BE PART OF A TAR PIT FOR THE REST OF TIME!"

"Return to your slumber, damned souls." A voice uttered.

The hands of the skeletons froze. They shuddered, and released, before sinking back into the pit, as if the words held power over them that they could not deny.

Calais crawled out of the pit as quick as she could, practically bounding out, Blobbi still attached to her. She took a second to catch her breath, while Blobbi hacked up the bits of sludge that mixed with him.

After a minute of rest, Calais stood, and turned to where the voice had come from, but nobody was in sight.

"Ugh..." Blobbi said pulling pieces of the goo out of his body. "I'm never gonna get all this out... let's get out of here before they wake up again. "

Calais agreed, and they quickly made their way out of the area, but she still wondered about the voice in the back of her mind...

Along the way, the pair ran into more unsettling obstacles, including but not limited to:

The gaze of a thousand sinners' eyes,

Monsters of biblical design,

The fog.

-and a shape-shifting entity calling their names from the shadows.

Eventually, after everything, "night" began to set in.

Despite the underworld not being exposed to the sun, light is formed from the great number of spirits who roam the "skies" of the caverns.

However, when the strength of the spirits wavers after they grow ever-tired through the day, the light dims, creating a kind of night-like phenomenon.

Knowing how bad things already were during the day, the two decided to try and find some kind of shelter before things became worse.

It took a few hours of searching, but eventually they found what they were searching for...

"Hey I think I see something!" Blobbi exclaimed. "I see some kind of building!"

Calais squinted and looked in the direction Blobbi pointed. She saw what appeared to be a castle of sorts. They decided to take their chance while they had one.

They went up to the castle door, and got a closer look at the building. It was covered in cobwebs, and had symbols of skulls engraved onto it. There was depictions of a hooded figure, a butterfly, and a scythe all on three respective parts of the two doors.

"Great... we chose the creepy probably-haunted castle to shelter in." Blobbi sighed. "Well, let's-"

The door creaked open, seemingly inviting them inside, but there was no wind, or anyone on the other side.

"I take it back, this is 100% haunted." Blobbi said, looking like he just saw a ghost (I mean he kinda did?). "I'm just gonna take my chances out here."

Calais however, was not going to sleep outside in the cold, and grabbed Blobbi as she stormed inside the castle, and even though he clinged to the grass with all his strength, he was pulled inside, and as they entered...

The doors slammed shut behind them.

The two of them examined their surroundings, the castle was far past its prime, pillars fallen over and shattered, and part of the ceiling collapsed, letting something like moonlight shine down through the hole.

The walls were decorated, but the decorations had long since worn, the only that seemed well kept was a scythe crafted of wood and bone, hanging above a throne at the very end of the hall.

On the throne was a shape... a faint green glow come from the figure.

The figure stood. It raised its hand, and the scythe came off the wall by itself and into its hand.

"Uh oh..." Blobbi said as he scooted backwards. "...is this the wrong time to say 'I told you so'?"

Calais stood ready, and while a little fearful, drew her blade.

The figure began to trudge towards them, with each step, Calais heartbeat quickened...

It grew quicker, quicker, even quicker,

It grew so fast she could barely tell what was happening anymore, and then-

"There you are!" A voice exclaimed suddenly from behind them.

Calais was so surprised she swung around with her blade before she could even realize what was happening.

There was a CRACK, and when Calais came to, she saw a dismembered skeleton, its pieces scattered across the room. She clasped her hands over her mouth, had she just killed someone?

"Woah!" The peculiar-looking disembodied skull rattled. Calais had NOT killed anyone yet. Yet.

The pieces of the skeleton floated up and snapped back together with a CLICK! It was actually quite satisfying.

"That wasn't how this was supposed to go!" The strange skeleton said.

"Forgive him, you two." A familiar voice said from behind them.

Calais and Blobbi snapped around to see the figure standing right behind them. A skeleton, with a cloak, black bones, and soul-piercing green eyes.

"I see that you seek shelter." The cloaked skeleton said. "I am Death."

"Wait like DEATH, death?" Blobbi asked in a mix of confusion and worry. "Are we about to die? For real this time?"

"No, not just yet." Death said. "It's not quite your time, despite what SOMEONE seems to believe... it's not often I have to interfere directly like this."

"You mean that guy who keeps trying to hack us in half?" Blobbi asked. "Also who's this other guy?"

"Yes, him. I know him quite well actually... he's very stubborn, that one." Death replied. "As for your other question, that is Shi, my brother."

"Hell-oh!" Shi said proudly.

Calais knew just from their meeting that this would be very interesting.

The reaper brothers stood together, and Calais got a better look at them. Shi was tall, lanky, and appeared to have goat parts. Death was smaller, but still quite tall, and had a piercing light peer through his eye sockets.

"So what exactly brings two fresh souls like you two down into our little zone?" Shi asked.

"Shi, please do not call visitors that." Desth said.

"Well, we were riding across that bridge up there, heading to the kings castle..." Blobbi replied. "When some guy literally slashed the car AND bridge in half. We fell down here, and after some searching, ended up here."

Calais nodded her head in affirmation.

"But how did a frail little flesh-thing like her survive such a fall?" Shi said, sticking his finger in Calais' face.

"Something saved us..." Blobbi replied. "We dunno what, though."

"Not to sound obnoxious, but that would be my doing." Death said. "Someone was directly going against my plans, so I had to intervene."

"Huh. Cool." Blobbi said. "Oh, and thanks, I guess."

Calais kicked Blobbi slightly, and thanked Death profusely.

"Well, you two said you were heading to the King's castle, yes?" Death asked.

"Yeah, why do you ask?" Blobbi replied.

"We could help you on your way." Death said. "I could arrange your method of exit, Shi could take you to where you need to be."

"WHAT?!" Shi snapped at Death. "Where do I get a say in this?!"

"Come now Shi, you just need to lead them a kilometer or two from here to their way out." Death replied. "I only ask you to do this once, and I can open you portal back once you are finished."

"...okay." Shi grumbled.

"Very well then, allow me some time and I will get you a way out of this place." Death said.

"Um... ok." Blobbi said.

Blobbi and Calais sat down and laid against and the remains of a pillar and waited...

After a bit of waiting, Death had arranged a something for their escape, they weren't sure exactly what it was, but they figured they would find out.

As the two exited the castle, Shi along with them, Death came up to them.

"It's very dark isn't it?" Death said.

"Oh yeah, I almost forgot why we came here..." Blobbi replied.

"Shi, take this with you." Death said, handing Shi a black torch handle. "Use it to guide them."

"Yeah, okay..." Shi said as he plucked the handle from him.

"Well, that should be all you will need." Death said. "Farewell, you two. I will see you again some day."

Following what Death said, Shi stomped out of the Castle, and the duo followed.

It was hard to see anything in the dark, and they were hesitant before stepping out of the castle's light.

"Cmon, move it!" Shi snapped.

Shi shoved the handle into his jaw, a great green flame of spirit energy was on the tip of the handle when he pulled it out. It illuminated a large area around them.

"I don't have all night..." Shi muttered as he continued stomping forward.

Blobbi and Calais quickly realized they were going to be left behind if they didn't catch up with Shi, so they quickly did, and they began to traverse through the night.

As the three were making their way through the darkness...

Calais and Blobbi kept within the light, but still tried to stay away from Shi. He seemed angry, on top of already being creepy to them.

Blobbi stuck close to Calais, sitting on her shoulder. He talked to her but kept his voice to a whisper as to not bother Shi any more.

"Hey Calais..." Blobbi whispered. "Wanna hear a secret?"

Calais tilted her head, curious.

"Well, it might be hard to tell..." Blobbi said. "But these guys kinda scared me."

Calais looked at Blobbi with a side-eye and an eyebrow raise, very much so being able to tell that these guys scared Blobbi.

"Ok, ok, maybe it's not that hard to tell, but still." Blobbi said, understanding exactly what her expression meant. "Especially that Shi guy. He's kinda freaky."

Calais agreed somewhat, he was acting fairly weird.

"He's really creepy..." Blobbi added. "And he was definitely implying some kinda scary stuff earlier... I wonder what he meant."

"Heheh..." Shi cackled, he turned around, sounding angry. "YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT I MEANT?! I CAN SHOW YOU *EXACTLY* WHAT I MEANT!"

"Wait you could hear us?!" Blobbi asked, shocked.

"EVERY WORD!" Shi said, ticked off. "YOU'RE AN UNGRATEFUL LOT, I'LL TELL YOU THAT!"

"O-oh, uh, we're sorry!" Blobbi stammered. "That w-was rude of us!"

"URGH, I DO ALL THIS WORK FOR DEATH, AND NOBODY RESPECTS IT!" Shi yelled angrily. "Maybe I should teach you to have some MANNERS!"

"Oh, you d-don't have t-" Blobbi was silenced as Shi's mouth covered the torch, encasing them all in darkness...

"Uh-oh..." Blobbi said nervously.

As the light was snuffed out, they began to hear things around them.

"Nobody ever respects me!" They heard Shi's voice, coming from somewhere in the darkness. "But they will... they ALL will!"

Calais was swiped across the back, and fell onto her knees, dropping Blobbi off her, and onto the ground.

"Fix this! Solve that!" Shi said mockingly. "Ever since dad gave Death his scythe, he thinks he's in charge! I'm the older one! I should be the one telling him what to do!"

"Uh... I'm sure you're right!" Blobbi said. He whispered to Calais. "You need to make some light, there's a spell for it, just take your sword and-"

"I CAN STILL HEAR YOU!" Shi said as Blobbi was punted.

Blobbi yelled as he was flung away, but Calais tried to reach for her sword, but when she unsheathed it-

"I'M NOT STUPID!" Shi said as the sword was snatched away. "WHY DOES EVERYONE TAKE ME FOR AN IDIOT!"

"I never said that..." Blobbi said in the distance.

"YOU WON'T BE NEEDING THIS!" Shi exclaimed and cackled as he tossed the sword away. Calais heard it clang off a tree and bounce back into his skull. "OW!"

"ARGH, IT'S STUCK!" Calais heard him say as he grunted and groaned trying to pull it out.

"Calais!" Blobbi called off in the distance. "You gotta get your sword back! Try to use your hearing to find him!"

"HEY!" Shi yelled. "SHUT IT BEFORE I STOMP YOU INTO A PUDDLE!"

Calais listened, and made an estimate of where Shi should be...

"AND ANOTHER THING-" Shi started, but was cut off as Calais lunged into him!

"HEY! GET OFFA ME YOU HAG!" Shi yelled as he tried to shove Calais off of him.

Calais grabbed onto her swords hand and began to pull as hard as she could.

"HEY HEY HEY!" Shi cried. "THAT HURTS!"

Shi heaved Calais onto the ground, but her sword had come out with her! The clang as the sword hit the ground alerted both Shi and Blobbi to the fact she had her sword.

"Great!" Blobbi exclaimed. "Like the other spells, but you wanna push the energy out of the sword and all around you!"

"I TOLD YOU TO BE QUIET, YOU LITTLE-" Shi started.

Calais got up as quick as she could, and focused her energy in her blade like she did with the pacification spell... and let it all go! There was a flash of white, and...

It worked! She could see again!

The light flooded their surroundings, and Shi hissed at the sudden blinding sensation.

"ACK!" Shi cried as he was bathed in light.

Blobbi quickly leaped back onto Calais' shoulder, as she took a fighting stance, his blade brimming with brightness.

Shi turned towards them and growled.

"Hah, you think you can beat me just because you can see?" Shi said as his flames grew in his palms. "You are still no match for a reaper! I am just as much of a soul reaper as my brother, I could kill you in a thousand ways, and I-"

"Shi!" A familiar voice yelled.

"Oh no." Shi said.

"What are you doing?!" Death exclaimed as he stomped past Calais and Blobbi.

"I decided I was tired of obeying YOU all the time! I'm tired of being second fiddle to my younger brother!" Shi retorted.

"What are you talking about?!" Death yelled back. "You have literally been asked to do ONE task! When have I ever asked you to do anything like this?!"

"WELL THERE- There was..!" Shi trailed off. "Actually wait you never did, did you?"

"HUH?!" Blobbi exclaimed. "YOU MEAN YOU DID ALL THIS OVER NOTHING???"

Death sighed.

"Like I said, forgive him, he's... not the brightest." Death said to the two fo them.

"HEY!" Shi snapped.

"You literally tried to kill these two over something that didn't even happen!" Death retorted.

"I..." Shi trailed off again. He turned and crossed his arms. "Maybe I'm just tired of everyone thinking I'm not smart enough to do ANYTHING!"

"Shi..." Death said with a sigh. "...We are going home."

"Wha-" Shi was cut off as Death grabbed his arm.

A portal opened, and Death pulled Shi with him into it. It closed behind them.

There was a moment of silence.

"...Wait what about getting us out of here?" Said Blobbi.

Calais realized they had been left behind along with Blobbi and she quickly began to worry, after all the things they saw during the day she didn't know what would happen if-

"Hey." A voice suddenly spoke behind them.

Calais LEAPED back, Blobbi clung onto her shoulder for dear life.

It was Ribeye.

"You guys fell in." Ribeye said. "You probably need to get out."

"First of all, DON'T JUST SHOW UP LIKE THAT!!!" Blobbi said, shaking. "Second of all, how did you know we fell down here??"

"I was driving the limo." Ribeye responded. That was apparently one of his jobs too.

"Oh." Blobbi said. "Well how'd you get here?"

Ribeye stuck his thumb behind him, pointing to a rope hanging down on the wall of the canyon. Upon closer look, Peyton and George were at the top, waving and looking down at them.

Calais and Blobbi waved back.

"Well... that worked itself out." Blobbi said with a shrug. "Shall we GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE NOW???"

Calais chuckled and nodded, and they ascended the rope, when they got to the top, Ribeye was already there.

"Hey guys!" Peyton said as Calais pushed herself up and away from the cliff. "You two ok?"

"Yeah... physically." Blobbi said.

"Cmon, we'll get another ride! we're already close to the castle so we should be able to-" Blobbi stopped Peyton.

"We appreciate it, but I don't think we should..." Blobbi said. "The guy who attacked us keeps coming back, and we'd just put you in danger..."

Calais agreed.

"Oh... are you sure?" Peyton asked.

"Yeah, pretty sure." Blobbi replied.

"Well if you insist..." Peyton said. "Call if you need anything at all though, ok? I'll be there with my guys to help in a second!"

"Will do, thanks!" Blobbi said.

Peyton and her crew left, and the two were left alone, and the pair continued on their journey to reach the King...

Yapping about my writing process...

Also this might be obvious to some a suprise to others but this was inspired a bit by Deltarune Chapter 4 and (!!!SPOILERS!!!)

...

...

...

You clearly either already played it or just don't care for spoilers.

-and specifically the fight with Jackenstein. To be fair I just kinda make up shit as I go and it turns out good as I start to formulate an idea for where I want the story to go as I'm writing it (to ALSO be fair I still have a basic plot idea before I start writing), and I was listening to A DARK ZONE while writing, so that definitely had some influence, but while reading you can probably see the similarities if you played it. Hope you enjoy/enjoyed reading it!
