The asbestos ban:
The Trump administration is considering removing a nation-wide ban on asbestos, a mineral used in construction that is directly linked to causing several lung problems including cancer. The ban was originally instituted in 1989 and overturned in 1991, but health experts argued for decades to reinstate the ban until it was finalized during the Biden administration. The removal of the ban is not finalized at this moment.

The suicide helpline:
The Trump administration has cut a life-saving suicide helpline for LGBTQ+ youth. In a statement released on Tuesday by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, it was announced the Trump administration has consolidated the 988 suicide helpline’s funding by removing the specialty line for LGBTQ+ youth, including it’s contact with The Trevor Project, the largest LGBTQ+ suicide prevention initiative in the country. This hotline reportedly take 1.3 million calls from youth in America annually that will now go unanswered.

The war with Iran:
The US bombed Iran’s nuclear weapons storage unprompted. Trump has reportedly called this attack “a success.” The Iranian government has threatened a retaliation. Trump has stated that the US will fight back if Iran retaliates. This goes against Trump’s prior statements that there will be no wars under his administration.

Trump bombed Iran's nuclear weapons facilities because Iran WILL use them if they develop them. Israel will be destroyed, and Iran hates America.

As an LGBTQ youth, I am occasionally suicidal. Still, I don't think there should be an LGBTQ-particular helpline as the main line should be able to help with that.

And asbestos? As long as it isn't where people can breathe it, that's fine.

Iran threw the first punch Oct 7 with the proxy Hamas in Syria.

Trump only bombed 3 nuclear facilities in the north Iran mountains. Not Tehran.

Stop lying.

Iran threw the first punch, but it wasn’t at America, was it?

It doesn’t matter what Trump did or didn’t bomb, the fact that he attacked them at all is what matters because now they’re going to attack back and Trump has no plans of deescalating.

Stop defending a dictator.

What part of daily calls of "Death to America, Death to Israel," for the last 45 years do you not understand? Iran was allegedly a week or two away from developing a nuke. We know that they would have used it against their enemies. Ok, now class, can anyone tell me who are the enemies of Iran?

The toll of Iran’s murderous terrorism looms large..

63 victims, including 17 Americans, killed in a 1983 truck bombing outside the U.S. embassy in Beirut, Lebanon;
220 Marines, 18 Navy sailors and three Army soldiers murdered in 1983 when two truck bombs exploded outside a Marine barracks in Beirut;
Two Americans lost their lives in a 1984 suicide car bombing at the U.S. embassy in Beirut. 21 non-Americans, mostly Lebanese, were also killed in the attack;
19 Americans lost in the Khobar Tower bombing in 1996;
603 American service members slain in Iraq and Syria by Iranian-made improvised explosive devices or IEDs, according to a 2019 military review; and
Three Americans killed in January 2024 in a drone attack on a U.S. outpost in Jordan near the border with Syria conducted by two Iranians.

Wrong perspective. Used properly asbestos makes a good cheap insulator. Lots of hazardous materials are used daily.

Not necessary. Redundant, suicide hotline don’t need to be segregated into class, race, sex, or sexual preference.

Maybe true. Look like war may come.

Even if it’s “used properly,” many health experts still believe the ban is beneficial to the overall health of the country and removing the ban will have serious consequences.

Anyone can use the suicide helpline, there are just extra resources for queer youth since depression rates are higher among them. Trump is trying to remove these resources which is extremely dangerous and will result in many more kids ending their own lives.

And yes, war is on the way. Because that’s what makes America great I suppose.

It’s gonna save us money on building materials

plus if the construction kills the American citizens, the government won’t have to waste the bullets

The youth suicide helpline is losing a tailored service which never should of started to begin with.

Mental health affects us all, sexual orientation doesn't take priority or require its own special service.

You’re right, mental health affects us all. Sexual orientation SHOULDN’T require its own special service.

But we unfortunately live in a world where people are bullied for just existing and being who they are. We live in a world where it’s socially unacceptable in some places for someone to wear the clothes they are most comfortable in.

Whether you like it or not, suicide and depression rates are higher in queer youth than cis and straight youth, therefore needing more support.

Support that has saved lives, and is now being taken away.

They/them deserve the same care that is given to everybody else, no less and no more.

1. If I post it in msmg, I will get bullied for being political

2. Because of how skewed right-wing news stations like Fox are, this may be the first time some people are hearing about the Asbestos and it’s important that everyone knows about that

3. I like pissing off red hats
