Actually, no. You find more extreme views everywhere. I'm just talking about Iran as a country. It has a very ancient history, that predates the recent extremist regime.



I'm not here to defend the more radical types who burn US flags and chant "Death To America". That's on them.

I don't really condone the flag-burning stuff. Although I note that there is a cultural difference here. US citizens really get viscerally offended by seeing the US flag desecrated. That's fine. UK citizens are a bit more blazé. Burn the UK flag all you want. Sure, it's rude. But I don't think most Brits would give as much of a shit. It's not quite as sacred. They'd be pissed off, sure, and not impressed. But mostly just like, "Okay, f**k you then." The UK flag isn't quite as sacred. They literally make it into underpants. Even in the UK, if you put up a UK flag in your garden some kid will probably spraypaint a giant cock on it for a laugh within 24 hours. It's not quite as sacred a symbol as it is in the US.

Okay, fine. Take away Persia from history. No algorithms. Yes, humans would've probably come up with the same stuff eventually. But it would've taken longer.
