It is the history of race in America. Back in the days of segregation, and before that, in the time of slavery, it was codified. Our culture is still, to an extent, mired in that mindset.

Are you equally concerned with Malcolm X's degree of whiteness, or Booker T Washington's?

During a press conference Barak was asked, "Are you Black or White?" Without hesitating, Barak said, "I'm Black."

Now he could've said, "Both" or "Skin color doesn't matter for job qualification including president."

Instead he purposely said the most divisive thing possible.

Or, alternately, in a society that always sees him as a Black man, he told the truth he's lived his whole life.
