Why do you support the economy of China over our economy? When we buy Chinese goods at Home Depot, or Walmart, the US worker takes it in the shorts. When we have no or low tariffs on Chinese products, and they tariff the hell out of us, and put in place non-tariff trade barriers against us, what is the net result? It's our govt incentivizing companies to set up or move their manufacturing to China.
Let's not forget that on top of that, China doesn't care about working conditions, paying workers decently, or even at all in the case of child slave labor. I thought the left cared about human rights?
Why did Apple move or set up so much of its manufacturing in China? Slave labor is the correct answer; it lowers the bottom line. And btw, you may have noticed that when we tell China that we're morally opposed to their human rights violations (especially when it comes to children) and that they better clean up their act, they pretty much ignore us. Surprising, huh? Since we can't compete with slave labor any other way that I know of than tariffs, we just might be saving children. I thought the left cared about kids?
The huge trade deficit we have with China is only a symptom of another underlying problem. China uses all that money we pay them in tariffs and direct revenue from our markets to fund some pretty nasty actors. They buy 90% of Iran's oil, and of course we all know what Iran then does with our money, right? They fund Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, etc. So if we follow the money, we see a direct pipeline of our money funding the same people who are trying to kill us.
Hell, even Pelosi and Schumer were very much in favor of strong tariffs against China until Trump. Then reflexively, as is the case for them with all things Trump, they no longer support tariffs. I guess all those great reasons (moral, protecting US workers, etc.) they were shoveling down our throats were just theater, or political bullshit, hey? If they had a shred of dignity, they would be saying 'finally, a president who is doing the right thing', instead of grandstanding for political purposes to take down Trump.
I get it, we all look at our bottom line. It's hard to think about doing what's best for the country and our kids and grandkids when there's too much month left at the end of our money. Unfortunately, our govt has not cared about fixing this problem, until now. Trump is the only president in my lifetime who has taken serious steps to remedy this.
