"Like coffee? Electronics? Clothing? Cars?"
Yes, yes, yes, and absolutely YES!
You do realize that you just admitted what's really going on, right? You admitted that dems are told what to consume by their overlords in the dem party party leadership and the tiny minority upper crust elites. I don't know about you, but I don't like politicians telling me what to buy, and from where.
That hardly sounds like freedom.
"Even the stuff that is made here has parts or machinery made in other countries..."
Okay, you're getting there, albeit slowly. If the demonrat elites actually cared about American workers, they would applaud Trump for bringing manufacturing back to our great country. But they aren't. Stop and ask yourself why? (hint: take a look at it from a globalists' perspective)
These tariffs are not just aimed at countries, they're aimed at companies. If these companies want to bring down the cost of their product (i.e. compete fairly with American made products) they need to build their factories here; use US made components. Move their R&D here, etc.
Since WWI, administration after administration has allowed US jobs to be shipped overseas, and allowed other countries to hit us with HUGE tariffs and non-tariff trade barriers while we impose none on them, or small amounts like 2%.
Trump didn't start this trade war, but he's going to finish it. And its US workers and consumers who will benefit the most.
I get it, I really do. Over reaction by US and foreign markets has us all a bit on edge. Especially the top 10% who own 93% of all stocks.
But these things take time. It took us a long time to get in this mess with trade and a nearly $37 TRILLION deficit. It can't be fixed overnight, which doesn't fit well into the 'instant gratification' mentality of our current culture.
So, a little patience will go a long way. Countries are lining up to strike trade deals with us now. Although you might not know about that since the media will either not report it, or barely report it. Dig deeper Octavia, and open your eyes to their lies. I've been telling you that for years now.
