That is one of the many many reasons why the people of the USA overwhelmingly voted for President Trump.
JSYK…60% of the $285 BILLION DOE budget went to college loans and grants. Seeing as how our universities are churning out mindless and angry automatons, it’s a good thing for America and Americans that the DOE is to be eliminated.
Very little of that budget actually makes it to the classrooms of our children.

Going to pay for my kid's text books at the local college book store would nearly make me blow a gasket. Never mind the obscene cost of text books but among other things $10 for spiral notebooks and loose leaf paper that cost 50 cents at the local Wal-Mart not 2 miles away. Why? Because kids coming in there spending money that was given to them by government grants and loans, if not bank of Mom and Dad. We made sure our kids knew better.

Campus bookstores are an emergency/convenience source for scholastic materials and the purchase prices reflect as much. So yeah... crisis/convenience prices -i.e. peak capitalism.

They will charge what they have figured out what (more than some) students will pay for common and widely available items who are indifferent to practicing thrift. A fool and 'their' money is soon parted, so the saying goes.

I had an aunt who was a public school teacher for 40 years who passed away some years ago. She had talked about having to buy supplies for her own classroom(s) because her students often didn't have the proper supplies. I see nothing has changed.

You realize none of that DOE money will affect this statistic at all right?

Pouring a TRILLION plus dollars into DOE over 4 decades and all they have to show is declining grades... WOW
